Anyone know how to check the status of a firearm by serial number? Long story short a friend of mine caught her son with a gun and took it away. Didnt know what to do with it and gave it to me. No sense in destroying a firearm if its not tainted or stolen. Any advice?

Go to police station and ask them to run the serial of a gun a possibly shady guy wants to sell you. Thats what I did, only at the sheriffs. They called the same day and told me it was clean.

Give them the least possible amount of info.

I might give that a whirl. Its a Bryco (Jennings) model 38. If you google it all you find is lawsuits. I'll probably just turn it into a doorstop! Or save it as a back up piece and if I run outta ammo in a bad situation I'll throw it at 'em.

take the firing pin out and pin the chamber and use it for a training gun...If it isnt stolen..or torch it into itty bitty pieces.

I've got a couple of extra belts I'm not using if you want to help her whip her son's ass.

I question the judgement of your friend's son. That is a piss poor choice of a "weapon".
In seriousness I feel for the woman. May be curiousity, he is male after all, or could be something much deeper and dangerous.
Sounds like he needs a father or father figure asap. Hope it all works out.

Whats even funnier is I just saw one on craigslist for $150. He's just dumb enough to get in trouble with it, even if he bought it legit. Trust me, there is nothing I could do that his mother wont do worse. I would hate to be on the business end of her, I'd rather get shot with a shitty firearm.

heh I have a bryco.

figured it'd be a good pocket gun, cheaper than a bersa or walther.

cheaper is right. I'm waiting for a gun buyback to ditch it.

I would call and ask the sherrif to run it. Tell them you are looking to buy a used firearm and would like to know if it is a clean gun. give as little info as possible.
