View Full Version : Cell phone (s) as a spotting scope?

Anyone have advice on how to best use a cell phone as a spotting scope. Seems some guys use two Apple phones with FaceTime to see targets out 300 yards distance. Other than not putting the cell phone at risk of being shot or hit by flying debris what you guys think of this concept?

All they are doing is initiating a face time call and then leaving the one phone up close aimed at the target.

Just get a spotting scope or a good pair of nocs..

Get a spotting scope and they make adapters for your phone to just look through it and display on the cameras screen. They work ok.

I use a Phoneskope with my spotting scope and it is a slick setup. Combination of the zoom on the spotting scope and the digital zoom on the phone extends the usefulness of the spotting scope. Also nice just being able to look at the screen to see where you are hitting. Photos and videos are also very easy to take.

Simple. All you need is two iPhones. One for yourself and one for this guy. He can call or text you to let you know where the shots hit.

More like a relative

I started this thread last Sept. I was pretty disappointed at the remarks about using a spotting scope. Have now used this concept very happily for three months and I like it much better than my spotting scope. Maybe it is my old age eyes but in various lighting situations I can quickly see my target and the small .223 holes.

Dang, seeing the price they want to charge, I should start building these...

$700 for < $100 in parts, and a little time?

I guess having developed the app helps justify it, barely, but good grief...

Back on topic though, I use phoneskope and a decent spotting scope, and I really like it.

It makes checking shots simple without moving too far...

Intriguing concept, but damned pricy for a couple of bits of plastic.....

I just KNOW where my shots hit. Don’t need any of this BS!

High quality spotting scope is where it’s at for me.

I have a Phone Skope gift card I will likely never use. I picked it up at a match this year. It is good for $25. If one of you gentlemen want it (and will actually use it!) it is yours. Shoot me a PM if interested.
