Needed a break from this screwed up day-Star Wars, A New Hope-is on. Good light hearted distraction even with Lucas' crappy additions and changes.

I'm not really a Star Wars fan, but Iiked it as a kid and happened to catch this last night for 20 or 30 minutes while training the puppy.

 Uhh...did they add a bunch of cartoons? I don't remember Jabba...

Jabba had a couple of scenes with Leia on a leash.

Then Lucas couldn't leave it alone and added a scene at the Millennium Falcon having a dialog with Han Solo about being owed money, and Han steps on what we're led to believe is Jabba's tail.

Totally unneeded IMO. Would love to see Disney re-release them with an option to play them in their original theatrical release version.

I had the original versions on VHS and at least my sons saw them before the shitty revised editions came out. It would be great if Disney released those. I wonder if there's anything in the purchased rights that would prevent that?

Jabba didn't have Leia on a leash in Episode IV - A New Hope, that was Episode VI - Return of the Jedi. However, Lucas added CGI Jabba confronting Solo at the Millenium Falcon to A New Hope when he did the Special Editions in the mid-90s.

True, I probably should have mentioned that the original Jabba scenes were in Return of the Jedi. Lucas apparently felt the need to fill in the backstory and his wallet.

The original Star Wars ("Episode IV" for you Millennials) was flmed with the Jabba scene in the hanger bay outside of the Falcon, but... Lucas couldn't find a way to create the Jabba character he imagined so he used a rather corpulent man as a stand in (guy was in costume similar to other Mos Eisley characters). Lucas chose not to include it in the original movie since he never got the Jabba character worked out. By the time Jedi was being produced he finally had what he needed to do Jabba the way he wanted. With the Jabba character template, advancements to CGI (too late to refilm that scene) and, lastly, Lucas' desire to include the scene in the movie as he'd always envisioned it, he added it to the Special Edition. As a purist, I wish he'd left it out.

I think the story is that originally Jabba was going to be a human gangster, and they did film that scene when they made the original, but it was one of those deleted ones. Then when Lucas went to remake it all, after they'd made Jabba the fat one, he tried to make a "younger" Jabba.

(And then of course they make the prequels back with "old" Jabba, so it makes even less sense).
