Curious if it's legal or not to paint a vehicle outdoors in your driveway in CO. Parker specifically.

Anybody know?

Probably not illegal in Parker (making sure that nothing runs off into the street or sewer), but your neighbors will most certainly complain. And definitely check with the HOA.

I'd throw up some tarps around it to keep the over spray from blowing away. And just do it. Just make sure the spray stays in your yard.

Can you drive the car to an abandoned mall parking lot, along with a generator and your compressor....and just spray it there?

Normally HOA regulate that stuff. And if you live on the East Slope, reasonable probability you may have an HOA that dictates what ply of TP to use. If you live in highlands ranch, they dictate which direction to put the roll too.

Running afoul of an HOA is honestly worse than breaking most laws. So really check that.I've been living in Highlands Ranch for over 20 years. Never been told how many ply or which direction the roll had to go. They must be slipping.

Wear a mask, try not to breath the paint. The paint is bad for your lungs.

I’m guessing the OP isn’t looking to paint a car in his driveway but rather looking to see if his dipshit neighbors are braking any laws by doing so.

I have no real answer but would be surprised if there weren’t OSHA or EPA regulations regarding painting a vehicle. Obviously, OSHA regs likely wouldn’t apply since it’s not a business but maybe you could unleash the wrath of the EPA on them if everything isn’t up to code.

Check out the big brain on Ray.

In retrospect, I think you're on the money.

Yeah, pretty sure it isn't that Earl Scheib went out of business.

Ron's just mad because the neighbors still haven't given him his Wagner Power Painter back yet.......

It should be.... unless it's in a very clean environment until the paint dries, it's going to look like shit.

If they're using Krylon (or similar) rattle cans to do it, chances are it already looks like shit so not much of a big deal. Last I checked, the directions on spray cans say to use outdoors or in a well-ventilated area.

Unless,....your objective is to huff the paint, in which case you might be hyper-ventilating using no airflow as not to diminish the full potential of your High.

No no no, it's me - not some neighbor. I have this old Willys CJ5 Jeep I'm restoring, and "someday" I'll get it to the point where it's ready for paint. The chassis is done and on the backyard patio. The tub is in the garage, mounted on a rotisserie frame so I can spin it around to work on every nook and cranny. The hood, fenders and grill are up in the garage loft.

At some point, I'll want to roll the rotisserie and tub out in the driveway and paint it, this is why I'm asking. Won't be anytime in the near future. And it's a Jeep, not a rod. It'll be driven on trails, not entered in shows. I want the paint to look nice, but I ain't concerned about a little dirt or a couple of bugs.

No shits given about neighbors or HOA either, just environmental laws. I can paint it outside and then roll it back in and close the garage door for that matter.

We had a very nice neighbor in Baltimore, and every spring she would roll a new coat of exterior latex on her late 70's sedan. She used a 2" medium nap roller and paint tray like she was doing trim on the house. Her car never looked good but it didn't look terrible either. Very little rust which was surprising on an east coast car.

I would guess that if it doesn't take you too long to paint, and you don't over spray anyone else's stuff, you will be fine. I can't imagine the neighbors minding the painting any more than the car parts in the yard for an extended time.

I painted the Pinz with rattle cans more than once, looked fine for what it is. Just sold it last week, had to drive it up onto the transport truck. Serious seller's remorse. The wife likes to remind me that I got rid of the only cool thing about me.

I still say the difference between you spraying your jeep with Krylon and me spraying water bottles, my AR-7, etc. is just a difference in quantity. I've never heard of any laws against using spray paint outside although some municipalities require photo ID while purchasing spray paint to prove you're an adult (due to taggers 20 years ago). That's another interesting irony in the SJW fight against requiring photo IDs to vote since the little darlings have to have it to get spray paint but I digress.

I can't imagine anyone complaining unless you were spraying more in the air upwind of them than you were on the car.

There are laws about practically everything we do in our daily lives these days. Name one thing you do that doesn't have some law or regulation associated with it. But like others have said, just be responsible and careful to not jack up someone else's stuff and you should be fine. I doubt the enviro-nazis will storm your house if you do it right. But your carbon footprint WILL suffer. [Sarcasm2]

Oh noes. Hole in the ozone layer. Climate change. The children.

As long as you didn't get any on my stuff, I wouldn't care. I think it's pretty cool that you're trying to keep that old Jeep going.

Spray away
