View Full Version : Aggressive pickup styling without a lift?

I'm in the market for a new vehicle. I have a 2013 GMC with the Duramax that I use for work, so I don't need towing capacity or super heavy duty.

I want a crew cab and a short bed and probably a topper. This will be my personal vehicle, and I'm wanting something pretty aggressive looking. The problem (besides my lack of imagination) is that my garage door opening is abnormally short. My GMC fits, but it's close.

So, I'm on the hunt for some inspiration. I'd like to see pics of some aggressive looking trucks that are stock height. I've been poking around on the web with little success.

What are you looking to spend? I've already decided if I by a new truck it's going to be a duramax Colorado, the ZR2 has a pretty aggressive factory look, but is a bit out of my price range, I'd likely be looking at the Z71.

Do you want a full size? It seems like the Chevy is lowest to the ground. Before I lifted my Tundra it just barely fit in the garage at my old apartment which had a lower than normal opening because it was a basement garage. Test drive them home and check.

I suppose $60K is the limit. Wouldn't mind a nice used vehicle, but we typically buy new.

Full size is a must. It'll be a family car, too, and I have a couple of kids. We roll pretty heavy wherever we go, and we've gotten used to having some room.

16 Tacoma's are junk! No power and to much shifting.
Although the new 18 it's supposed to be a diesel.
A lot of guys are trading their Tacoma in on a Chevy Colorado. I traded mine in on a rubicon.

Jeeps coming out with a pick up also!!!!

I think I want American Made. I've got nothing against Toyota, I still own a 2004 Tundra. I'm considering a US flag wrap on the truck, one of the ones with very muted colors. It'd look stupid on a foreign truck.

My Dodge is pretty swanky. Power everything, satellite radio, remote start, etc. picked it up used for less than half of the original sticker price. Rides smoother and quieter than any Ford or Chevy I’ve owned. I’ve made two trips to Houston and back and it’s awesome out on the highway. Kind of wish the bed was about six inches longer.

Also, you could look into a 2WD. Should easily clear the garage door and used ones around here are pretty cheap.

Kinda like how Dodge is owned by a Italian company?

Legal ownership really doesn't matter anymore. If the company has a US headquarters, pays US taxes, employs thousands of US people, uses US parts, manufactures in US plants...it's American Made.

Minor hijack.

How the hell does a Honda Ridgeline classify as a truck? I have seen a couple dozen of the new ones recently, and dang, they are ugly. They look like someone chopped the back half of a mini van off and called it a truck. Hell, they even advertise an "in bed trunk". It really is a van. FWD or AWD only. And it's a unibody w/ independent rear suspension. It's no more truck than a Subaru Brat yet was a Motor Trend "truck of the year finalist." WTF?

This in spades. I've never been a GM guy anyway, but becoming ObamaMotors completely sealed the deal for me. Always liked the 'burb, but 100% no fly list for me forever. Honestly, Chryco is right behind them, and i loved my CTDs.

I read a few bad reports about super charged Raptor V-6's crapping out with really low mileage. Dealer would say crap like you were being too hard on it, and refusing to honor warranty. Squeezing V-8 power out of a six is asking for trouble. Do the math. Be scientific. Don't buy the hype. I think it mainly was supercharger failure. If the thing is going to leave me stranded, I don't want it.

Probably was a supercharger failure...because they don't have one. Maybe you're thinking about the turbocharger.

There are a number of engine designs out there using V-6s with direct gas injection and one or two turbos that turn out an amazing amount of horsepower and torque and are very reliable. I also read about teething problems with the early Ecoboost engines, but haven't heard much lately.

Raptor SVT supercharged....I know what I read. Shed the Teflon on the rotors and effed it up. Guy worked in the outback of Canada. Older guy, never hot rodded it. Every new truck I ever had had some serious failures too. World of junk! I go through the forums a lot, and every once in awhile do a modification. Usually to prevent an impending failure. They use soybean oil to make wire insulation, and the rodents love that stuff. Maroons!

Perhaps the author(s) provided inaccurate information, or you read it wrong, is that even remotely a possibility? We all make mistakes now and then. From the quick research I just did, the only factory non naturally aspirated Raptor available is with a turbo, not a supercharger. The Lightning came with a supercharger. If I'm wrong on this, I'll gladly admit it....

Sorry to get off topic Tim.

OP was speaking of a new truck. 2017 and newer Raptors do not use an SVT designation. As far as I know, the only SVT supercharged Raptors were older models using the 6.2L V-8s, which were 3rd party builds from Shelby (http://www.shelby.com/images/pdf/2013raptor.pdf), Roush (http://www.roushperformance.com/vehicles/raptor-2013.html), and Hennessey (http://hennesseyperformance.com/vehicles/ford/f-150-raptor/), like the VelociRaptor.

Any previous (pre ecoboost Raptor) Supercharged Raptor was aftermarket and thereby not covered by ford's warranty. Roush had a deal where they'd take over the warranty if they installed their kit on the truck Hennessey did something similar. There hasn't been a Ford Factory Supercharged Raptor ever produced for direct sale to the public.

Anyway Tim, I'd look at a Regular F-150 crew cab with a 5.0 in it (like mine) and then do what I did with my old one and plan to do to this one. Leveling kit up front, Airbag helpers in the back. and 33" ish Tires and wheels. Retains all the warranty, drives nice, gets 21 mpg. and looks pretty nice. Put a nice molded topper on it and you have clean dry storage in the back for gear/guns/whatnot.

I just need to stop bleeding money on barrels and loading components long enough to save up the cash for the updates.

Well, here's what I ended up buying. It's the perfect gun runner. It seats four adults, hauls ass, and with the hard tonneau cover, stores guns and gear securely and out of the weather. I did bed liner crap on the rockers, and now in considering it on the tonneau cover. At some point (when my wallet stops smoking) I'll do aftermarket bumpers front and rear.

Oh, it's a Dodge Ram Rebel. The air suspension is endlessly entertaining for my kids.

All jokes aside, it looks cool. Never even heard of a Rebel before now.

12-22-2017, 22:06
Was just going to post that you should buy a rebel. I have one too. Fit 35's and still able to get into any parking garage. Tons of power, 8 speed is great. I got the rambox, tons of storage. Even a good stereo if you get the underseat sub. Get 16 mpg in mostly town driving, 23 on the highway.

Technically any type of forced induction is considered supercharging.
