I've got some new speakers to install in my 2014 Silverado Crew Cab. Just curious if anybody here has done this on a late Chevy pickup, and how much of a pain in the ass it is? I've got instructions and wiring isn't a problem, just concerned about getting the door panels off and back on. The "clips" make me nervous.....don't know what to expect. Really hope this ain't a 4-5 hour job.

Shouldn't be too bad with the right tool. I actually bought a tool for this since I didn't want to use a screw driver.

I'm not 100% sure but I don't think they use the traditional trim panel clips on the door panels anymore. I think once you remove some of the minor trim pieces and a few fasteners you simply lift up on the door panel. YouTube is likely your best friend if you haven't had it apart before and don't want to overlook something small and break something.

We wired some Suburbans for DIA two years ago, and if GM was using the same attachment clips in '14...then expect some of them to break off during removal.

We had to order replacement clips.

Buy the tool and some extra clips. They are a PIA, especially if they have never been removed before.

^^ Oh, man... I coulda used one of those a few weeks ago. Blower motor went out on my wife's Cruze and I had to remove a LOT of trim pieces to get to it. What a PITA.

Just as I feared, dealing with the door panels sucks big hairy donkey balls. Swapping the speakers is cake, knew it would be. But the fucking door panel - ugh. Already ruined one new speaker, stuck a goddamn panel clip or something through it. Not a job for an impatient old bastard with arthritic hands and two fucked up shoulders.

Thank god Car Toys said they'll install them, for a fee. Don't ask how much. Gotta get another pair from Crutchfields first.

Goddamnit, I knew better. That's why these speakers have been sitting in the box for 8 months. Fuck me.....

I’m probably late to the party, but do you have the Bose system in your truck ?
If you do, make sure to match the impedance of the system with your replacement speakers.
The Bose system in my GMC has a 2 ohm impedance.
But mine is a 2006 model.

Don't be offended but I laughed my ass off reading that. Because that rant has "me" written all over it.

No, not the Bose system, but thanks for bringing that up. Crutchfield's asked me that too when I ordered the speakers. Which are Kicker CS65's, FWIW.

Decided to just get the new pair of speakers at Car Toys, rather than order them and wait. Maybe they'll cut me some slack on the installation fees. I'm sure their speakers will be much pricier than Crutchfields.

Shucks,...I'm sorry to hear that you had those problems in the process. Bummer.

I'm sure some loser that can't get a job anywhere else will do a great job installing those speakers for you.
