What are people running for their AR 15 platforms? I have never ran an optic with magnification before but decided to run one of my rifles with a scope. Looking for a place to start.

Barrel length and twist rate, average distance you plan shooting, max you'd like to hit or work up? Factory or loading your own, bench, 3 gun, PDW? Place to start, as in get comfortable then go longer, or buy once cry once comfortable?

I like a 4-20 after putting 5-25's on the bolt guns, if i could i'd sell them and go 4-20 across the collection.

I have a Redfield Battlezone 3-9 on my AR. Turret is tuned to 55gr at 3100fps.

Ended up with it after saying "I'll take it" on this forum for a friend. He couldn't afford it. I don't regret the choice....

What do you plan to do with it? What are your goals for its versatility vs dedicated role? Is this a do-all upper or a dedicated precision one?

More or less dedicated, just mostly target shooting at 300 yards. Just something to mess with since I never have had scope style set up on an AR.

16 inch, 1/7 twist, 300 Yards, Not sure how far I can really shoot with an AR and a 16 inch barrel, factory load, mostly bench, and just looking to have fun, maybe see how long I can shoot with it, but not trying to be Chris Kyle.

Check out the MTAC if you can live with 1-4 magnification. Nice optic, will do 300yds, has hash marks for drop compensation. If you don't care about true 1x at low magnification, then I have always liked the Luppys that bottom out at 1.25x since they are so light. Strike Eagle if you want to play with 1-6 magnification.

Get a 1-8 strike eagle. If you have extra money burning a hole in your pocket get the 1-6 vortex razor

+1; for the intended usage and rig, being that a 16" still has capacity for swinging ready unlike a more dedicated precision rig, cutting down the middle with a 1-8 seems like the way to go.

Have been running a PST Gen2 1-6x24 mrad for about 5 months on a 16" 5.56 platform (223 wylde, actually), aside from being just a touch heavier than some other options I really like it...

Glass, reticle and illumination are real nice for up close as well as reaching out further, and controls (turrets, illumination, etc.)/aesthetics are nicely done...

1-6 is about where I would go.

Whats your budget?

I started running a Vortex Razor 1-6 at work last year. I took it through a CQB/Vehicle package to see if looking through a tube would slow me down/piss me off after years behind a T1. I didn’t notice the tube and the amount of time it slowed me down was negligible. Especially when balanced against my ability to target ID at longer ranges.

It’s on a 10.5in LMT shooting 70gr TSX. I can reliably hit E types at 600.

For my daily rifle that goes everywhere with me I run a 1-6x SWFA. I shoot 55gr FMJ for practice but carry Federal 62gr bonded that does not change my zero. Having a scope has not slowed me down that I can tell as others have mentioned. What it has done is given me a strength to ID targets at further distances and easier to shoot for sure. I've only taken it out to 600 yards so far but had no trouble hitting IPSC targets.

I have a couple of the 1-6 Strike Eagles...work really well. I just finished the practical rifle class at Front Sight with it.

I have a 1.5x4 mark ar on a 16in middie and no issues out to 300yds. Have a 3x9x40 on a MVP and can makes hits at 550yds with ease if there is no wind. Im looking to up grade the MVP to a 4x12 to make thoes 550yds shots easier.
