have a bazillion videotapes (real movies, not home stuff)
and of course no videotape player anymore
Can't see i've even watched any of them in 10+ years but of course the wife wants to keep some of them
do they even have value or are they just tossable at this point?
It depends. You can always find VHS players at thrift stores, if you have movies that you want to re-watch.
The issue becomes ho they were stored. VHS tape normally starts degrading quality after about 20 years.
If you're looking to sell them, check prices online. Some of the rarer cult classics may be worth some money, and if you have any Disney tapes, you may be sitting on some $$. There are some Disney Classics that are worth money to collectors.
It really depends what they are:

Not sure why anyone would buy them!
Last time I had some and was moving, I just gave them away.

I spent probably 5 or 6 years trying to find a VHS of the original "Gone In 60 Seconds". Finally did. It cost me about $20 and it was in perfect condition. Shortly thereafter my wife decided to throw out all of our "old" VHS tapes...without axing me if I wanted to keep anything. Thanks to this thread I'm mad about that all over again.

That's a lot of por.........never mind.
Wife threw all of our old movies away, including the ones on DVD [facepalm]. I guess Netflix is the new norm.
Disney black diamond classic VHS movies are worth a littlr.

The big problem is most new tv's have no rca Jack's for a vhs player.
I know the orginal Disney movies and orginal cut star wars vhs's are worth a little.
Funny timing on this. A friend was looking for a replacement VCR as his tanked. Turns out VCRs are getting hard to find. And getting more expensive than you think. He found a free one, as you would expect. Seems a decent NOS VCR is becoming valuable. As to your "collection", if you could get a buck a tape you'd be doing great.

He really should check the GoodWill and Salvation Army.. they seem to have an overstock of them.

When Lucas first allowed the original cut of Star Wars to be printed on VHS, the contract was that for the first year the copies were "Not For Sale, video rental only". This was clearly marked on the case. One month into this program my dad convinced our video store owner to sell him a copy. I still have that VHS tape/case. I also still have a working VHS player/DVD burner combo hooked up. One day I need to burn that VHS tape before it becomes unreadable.
