Not the first time I've had issues with this but I'm trying to find a feedback thread for a member with a short, three character member name and not turning up any results. Am I doing something wrong? I'd like to leave the guy a little feedback but I'm not sorting through 84 pages of feedback looking for him.

Just tried this with user 10x, as I started a feedback thread for him after not finding one. Didn't find the thread I made.

Here it is:

Just merged the new 10x thread with the existing one.

Simplify your searching efforts.

If the member doesn't have a link to their Feedback thread (like I do) in their signature block, use this to find their thread if one exists (probably does):
- Once in the Feedback forum, look at the column header for the left-hand column - It says "Title/Thread Starter".
- Click on the word "Title" in that column header. This sorts the threads by special character, then numeric, then alphabetical.
- Now if the thread you're looking for is "10x" it'll probably show on the first page of threads. If you have your view set up to show 20 threads/page and you're looking for "9mmJ", it'll be at the top of Page 3; use the number of page threads displayed just above the table with all of the threads listed to click on "3". But, if you're set up to view 20 threads/page and you're looking for member "Mark H"'s feedback thread, in that listing of number of pages of threads I see "Page 1 of 84", then separate buttons for pages 1-6, then 11, then 51, then "Last". At this point I'd click on "51" and see where it takes me in the list of threads. Whoops, it took me to starting with "Mobat555"; I went too far. Now I click on Page 49...starts with "mattiooo"; still too far, but getting closer... Now I try Page 48; BINGO, there's the thread I was looking for within that page of threads.
- If the person you're trying to find the feedback thread for is, oh... "theGinsue", click on the "51", then the next highest number you'll probably see is "61", click it, then "71", the you're at member "spqrzilla" - getting close and near the end of the list so try "74"... Nope, but very close. Now "75" and low & behold the feedback thread for "theGinsue" is on that page.

Remember, the searches are case sensitive and we have many accounts that are spelled similarly so know EXACTLY how the members name is spelled. For instance, "The Heretic" (note the space between "The" & "Heretic" shows up BEFORE "theGinsue".

Give it a try and I'll bet you'll cut your search down to under a minute (probably under 30 seconds).

Follow up on this but from a different angle.

I've been trying to search the Private Party Firearms forum for a "CZ P07". Is there a workaround to make that happen? I tried putting the whole thing in quotes and that didn't help.

I've actually been looking into this lately. No viable solution yet.

Search for Česká zbrojovka P07.

You're welcome. ;)

Google method:

$term site:ar-15.co
cz p07 site:ar-15.co

Doesn't always work. Just tried for user 10x, using 10x+feedback site:ar-15.co and first page results were scattered. But, it does work alright for less nebulous terms. It'll at least get you in the ballpark parking lot.

Well, it certainly returned a lot of results, but none of them were from the trading post. Not sure how complete the search was, or if the forums are set so certain sections of the forum are not indexed, or if all the good results are later than the last index. Good to know though.

Google can't index members only sections of the site like the trading Post.

We can decrease the minimum length, but it becomes risky. For a 3 letter word, imagine someone searching the, or and. We'd be indexing and sorting over a million posts each time to cover it. And the results wouldnt be relevant anyways.

Are you able to exclude words like "the" and "and"? Or would it start getting confused if someone searched lathe or sand?
