View Full Version : Ethanol-free gasoline, legal or not for road vehicles?
Yesterday, I saw a sign on a gas station saying their gas has no ethanol. The station was closed for the day, so I don't get the details. I intend to stop there for my next fill up, but I'm wondering if there is a catch. I thought 10% ethanol was required in gasoline.
Is this too good to be true?

Here’s a site that lists pure gas locations.

Thank you! Great site. I see the gas station I had in mind is listed and a user reported their E-0 gas at $3.69 yesterday. I think I'll pass at that price.
I use it in my motorcycle, since it's got a carb and I don't like the idea of post-winter corn syrup. Can't stand ethanol.
Only one station sells it here in COS.

I use it in my car on occasion. The Murphy's off of arapahoe and Havana has ethanol free, as does the maverick off i70 and chambers.

I wasn't aware of that one. I know Chief Petroleum in west COS near Old CO City sells it.

+1 on the Murphy's on Arapahoe . . . I get it there for my snowblower.
For those needing it for 4 cycle, pricey but home depot etc has this zero ethanol 4 cycle fuel, good for running a bit thru a small engine and leaving in the tank to store over winter. (So on something like weedwhacker the 3 liter for $20 should last quite a while or multiple engines)

new station on west side of Elizabeth carries ethanol free. currently $2.77/gal I winterized mower today with it.

It used to be that you could buy a can of gasoline, put it in about any engine and it'd be good for years - then they added ethanol to the petroleum and now it "sours" in short order unless treated with something like Seafoam. I was unaware that you could still buy non-ethanol added gasoline but it's good to know.

What you don't want to get caught with is off-highway diesel in your pick up truck.

How would that work for non-ethanol gas?
"How many times did you try to start your motorcycle after winter storage?"
"um.... 2?"
"Here's your ticket"

Ethanol free gas is 100% street legal. Off-road diesel or "red diesel", since it is dyed red, is not assessed the normal fuel tax. It is meant for construction and farm equipment. If you were to get pulled over and they found out you were running it in your on-road vehicle via a tank test, the fines are astronomical.

Ethanol blended fuels are especially hard on older watercraft/snowmobile engines too. Same basic issues as bikes, small engines, etc.
P.S. I don't believe in Seafoam as it contains MORE alcohol. Reported to be 10-20% Isopropyl.
Here's a good read on using and storing any E10 fuel. https://www.westmarine.com/WestAdvisor/Busting-Ethanol-Fuel-Myths

I think the place near my work sell this near York and Brighton. I have also seen pure kerosene.
Interesting thread. I ran across "red dyed diesel" at a station this past week that was $.50 per gallon cheaper than highway diesel and had to look it up to understand the difference. That's when I found out there's a blue dyed diesel for government use that's made from the tears of taxpayers.
