View Full Version : Green Mountain Guns has a new owner
I'd heard the store was for sale for a while and evidently a new owner is onboard. Evidently just waiting on the ffl paper work. This shop had been my number one store when I first moved here in '84. Possibly the best consignment selection in the Denver area, especially for guys like me that like older S&Ws, but a good selection of cool used stuff (if any of you remember Ikey Starks they have a Colt Gov't he worked on at a great price-I have no connection to the gun or the store btw). It appears most if not all of the regulars will be hanging around though when I was in on Saturday I didn't get to see if my favorite is included.
Hopefully the new owner will keep things going just the way they are, the shop is known far and wide for the consignment stuff. Hope it's successful, don't need to loose a decent gunshop.

Fingers crossed that it won’t change. I’ve been shopping there for over 15 years, and love their consignments. They also treated me right when I bought what turned out to be an unsafe-to-shoot HK P9S and made the seller take it back.
I bought my AMT 22 mag from them a million years ago when they were still out on Jewell and Kipling, probably 1992. Good to deal with then, hopefully the same now.
I truly hope the new owner makes some serious changes. From the times I've been in I dealt with way over-priced stuff and beyond rude clerks. Even with the new owner I have doubts I will ever set foot in that hole again.

Teufel, Not a good way to introduce yourself to the forum.
I have had good experiences at Green Mountain and will continue to support them.

Ditto. I’ve found them to have the best prices and selection on used guns. And at least average new gun prices.

To be fair, he has been registered for over a year. So it's not like he just joined to badmouth GMG. Add to that first amendment and all.
Still, rough first post.

That applies here? Pretty sure I've been "counseled" at least once...

GMG was ok. The owner at the Gun Room will never get my money again. What a rude asshole judging who is a gun guy and who isn't good enough to buy his used shit.

I guess we better do it sparingly then. Wouldn't want the user base getting too worldly and refined. This place just wouldn't feel the same. [Coffee]

I also never had any issues at GMG. They were my preferred gunshop when they were at Jewell and Kipling. Never forget buying a very lightly used stainless Python there for $450. Prob around '98 or so. When they moved south I was moving in the other direction, so don't get there much anymore. Still- when I stop by, there are almost always a number of good deals to be had.

More times than not I read along with several posts, ingest the information and keep on moving along. The experiences I've had with this shop I felt warranted to let the forum know about for their own considerations as to whether they will support this shop or not. Simply because you favor this place for whatever unknown reason does not make my opinion any less or more than any other that's been posted thus far. To me, this was a perfectly fine way to 'introduce' myself around here. Good to know you disapprove though, I guess.

I must confess I feel similarly, if not as strongly. Truth is, there are enough other great places that I don't need them. Machine Gun Tours and BluCore have been pretty great to me, personally.
Just sold my Enfield No.5 through GMG. Hated to do it, but needed the cash to pick up a really sweet levergun swinging in front of my nose, which will get a LOT more use than the Jungle Carbine ever would. Easy peasy transaction. They always have lotsa cool guns in there on consignment, good thing I don't live close.

I stopped by GMG yesterday and spoke with some of the staff about the change. (No new faces, so far.) One new thing is that the store will now give a 5% discount to "first responders," though I don't know how deep that goes. Good used selection. Same good prices.
I've had generally good luck at GMG. Bought a couple of items there over the years. I've overheard from some of the older employees there sounding like Fudds on a couple of occasions, but other than that, they do a solid job keeping the inventory stocked and the prices right. I like Machine Gun Tours with the exception of some of their prices seem to be pretty outlandish. Same to be said for BluCore.

What used guns were there?
Wow, has Green Mountain gone down hill with the pending new ownership as of summer 2021. This used to be the place for the best consignment guns in the metro area, been buying there since I moved here in 1984. Outside of 3 of the guys the rest are worthless. There's one tall young guy that thinks he knows all about guns but doesn't know shit. Kind of arrogant as well. Tried to convince me that the Smith 629 is a K frame. I do pride myself on my familiarity with S&Ws, been a collector/accumulator for about 40 years haha.I just nodded and moved along. To be fair they do have a couple of model 15s that are priced fair (the -4 especially).
I'm a 1911 guy, kind of a snob if I'm honest, he's touting the fine quality of RIA among other -$600 1911s and comparing them to everything from Dan Wesson, Les Baer, Wilson and Nighthawk. Uh huh. They have a Colt lw Commander, stainless, that they allowed the owner to price it at $995. I was about to say "I'll bring that one home" until I looked it over. Has more scrapes/scratches than many other pistols I've examined in many years.
Ok, I know everyone likes different stuff, but again this store has gone a long way down hill in the past couple of years. I stop in to look around but unless I come across a super deal won't be buying there again.
Rant off.

Changing ownership again?
Supposedly Mike, the gentleman that purchased the store from the original owner and always treated me well, is retiring for good. Not sure on the timing but it’s been awhile since I’ve seen him in the store.
