Most likely why they chose Colorado Springs as the location for the store, patty plant and distribution center.

Whataburger is right here in Canton, but I gotta go all the way to Dallas for in-n-out burger

but there's a Duke's burger and sports bar right here that makes awesome burgers- whole 'nother level.... plus you can have a brew (or a scotch now, they just went full liquor license)

Come on Whataburger....

Yeah. I love Whataburger.

Though I have to admit there's some pretty good burgers in the area here. No chains...just mom n pop places.

Effies Burgers in downtown Lewiston. First time we went there looked at the menu and it said "Half Burger...$X.XX". I told the wife there must be a reason they sell half a burger. There is. A "regular" burger is made with 1 lb of beef. Very good.

Definitely a "Must Visit" place if anyone ever makes it out this way.

I'm not impressed. Didn't much care for Drifter's burger when I tried it and if I've ever tried In-n-Out in California, it didn't make much of an impression. I'm not a big fan of Five Guys either although I did like Whataburger on one of my visits to TX. If you want a good burger in Colorado Springs, head downtown to Bingo Burgers IMO. Now I would LOVE a Church's Chicken ...

I've had In-N-Out on two separate visits to CA. The last time was in January with coworkers who just rave over them. Neither time I went really impressed me. Okay, but nothig special.

Waiting on a Church’s Chicken to come to the Springs.....
I haven't had Church's since I moved out of Kansas City (MO) in 1985. That is probably the best restaurant chicken I've ever eaten. I miss Church's.

Yeah no thanks.
White Castle Is better.
I used to go to KY via Southern IL to go visit my in-laws. I would always stop in @ White Castle either going down to KY or coming home. I love me some White Castle sliders - by the bagfull. Now that the in-laws have passed away and we've sold their home we have no reason to make the trek.

I haven't seen a Church's in ages, I always liked it better than KFC.

As for In-n-Out, its popular for a few reasons (even though most folk that try it now are not super impressed):

Its cheap, but still pretty good
Its got a "secret menu"
It's deeply connected to car culture in California (many locations host car shows every weekend)
People that grew up in California connect it very strongly to their childhood
The fries!

So I see why people from California love it, and my brother who lives in Vegas really likes it (he's pulled in by the "secret menu") but I also can see why most everyone else is underwhelmed by it (myself included).

If I had one close by I'd eat there occasionally, but there's just too many other places that are just as good.

There used to be a couple of joints here that had food very similar to In 'N Out, one was here in Parker. Burgers 'N Sports? Something like that. Pretty dang good, I liked 'em. Seems the rumor was they were somehow related to In 'N Out, owned by a former employee or something. Been gone several years, health dept. violations or some such BS, probably threats of lawsuits too.

Then there's that place in The Springs that's also similar, but not quite, Drifters. Also good, but different enough to stay under the lawyers radar I reckon.

Anyway, good stuff. Never had a real In 'N Out burger, I avoid California. But I'm anxious to give it a whirl.

My all-time faves are private, local joints in my hometown in Enid, OK - Lottaburger, Lenox Drive In, and the Flamingo Lounge. Ain't gonna find those burgers anywhere else. There's some killers in El Reno too at Sid's Diner.

I'm guessing it's mostly like Apple. When a new In n Out opens, gotta eat there to get the new Iburger 8! Why is it so good? Because it's In n Out from California and lots of people like it! But why is it so awesome? BECAUSE OTHER PEOPLE SAY SO. It's f'n fabulous man, just like an iPhone 8, nothing comes close to it. You just have to believe. Don't be a heretic, have some faith when you bite into that burger that it's the best f'n thing you've ever had and it will be.

Culture is so doomed in fifty years.

So wrong.

The new fad burger joint is Shake Shack. Which is excellent, btw.

In and Out is the classic. A return to classics can only help the culture in multiple ways. It's like the "take a kid shooting" of burger joints. Beach Boys over Katy Perry.

Yes, this is the fast food we ate before the fake fast food of today. And they don't use marketing on your kids to pressure you to go so he can think he's getting a cheap made-in-China toy that turns out to be a three page coloring book with two crayons.

Oh, and I'm going to have to buy a few pairs of pants in the next size. Just in case.

on the subject of chicken instead of burgers... when I was in Tulsa, I was introduced to Charlie's Chicken... their chicken chunks (while not an appealing name) are far and above any other chicken I've gotten at a restaurant.

certainly if someone has a memory they're trying to get back to, it will trump the actual quality of the food... closest thing I have to that is Korn fritters from Sourdough Mining Co in Anchorage (Now out of business, but I have the recipe from when I worked there)

This is my thinking... another step toward the Californication of CO. I've had it, it's Meh at best, and think we've managed just fine without I-N-O the last however many decades. Granted, it's been at least 14 years since I've had it (and since I've been to Commiefornia), so I'd be willing to give it a try again, but I'm not hopeful.

I haven't seen a Church's in ages, I always liked it better than KFC.

The only problem I see- you'll have to wait forever due to popularity... If you think Chick-fil-a is bad you have no idea how long the lines will be at In-N-Out- and I'm not just talking the first few months. The Chick-fil-a in Brighton ALWAYS has a huge line at Lunch time.

I never understood this sentiment with regards to anything.

"Humanity managed just fine for thousands of years without morphine/antibiotics/etc"

Just because we don't know what we were missing doesn't mean we won't see an improvement in quality of life from it's arrival. INO is a cheap, tasty, relatively healthy lunch option.

Hey, it's rolling....roll with it.

Churches has much better chicken than KFC, but their sides kinda suck compared to KFC. IMO.

Never had White Castle burgers from an actual joint, but the ones I have had were small and retarded and they sucked. I must be missing out on the actual experience that folks are happy to report about. Actually, I don't frequent fast food joints very often because I know it's all crap food with tons of salt and fat. Also, most of the sit down restaurants serve basically unhealthy food in over sized proportions.

No side track intended.

Around 1993, my family were dirt poor. We once decide to go there with $15. We were anticipating on free bread stick refills, but we didn't have enough. I didn't go to Fazoli again until 2009.
If I recall, Fazoli tasted less salty back then than now.

I'm from California and I love In N Out. Is it the best burger - No. It's not ment to compete with restaurants. But for fast food - Wendy's, McDonald's, Burger King, etc - my opinion is that it's far better. Patties are fresher. They aren't frozen.

LOL. It's been about 15+ years ago, but I use to live walking distance of Original Tommy's at Beverly Blvd. I don't know about now, but they use to have 2 kitchens and rotate the usage on non busy hours to do cleaning. It was when they use to give bottle/can soft drinks and unlimited yellow pepper. My record was 20. I think I probably lost about 5 lbs that week from eating 20 peppers.

Only thing I would recommend is that just pay that extra x cents and get a chilli on top of the fries.

I won't forget Colorado... they won't let me. Most of the people here look at me funny when I tell them I left Colorado to move here when they ask where my accent is from. They can't understand why I would leave such a purdy place. I'm also not originally from Colorado, grew up in Alaska.

Lol, that's what I was thinking, like someone ate real chilli, and then shat on an order of fries.
That was my reaction, but I was tryin' to be polite and all... looks like some Californian used ground beef (shudder).

I'm even getting cattle, pick up 2 steer this Sat... still looking for a proven cow, rather than take a gamble on a heifer.
I could have a whole thread on "if it has beans, corn, tomatos, or mushrooms, it's really a stew... with chili IN it."

But at the same time, I know Texans didn't invent chili- they just perfected it. [Poke]

When did White Castle become good? Spent some time in OH and was never impressed with them. Didn't like Tony Packo's either.

Now, if Milt's, Rod's Herd Burgers or Jack's Atomic Dogs came to CO, I'd get excited.

White Castle/Krystal = Drunk chow. I used to live in Chattanooga (Actually Red Bank), and the speed shop I managed was directly across the main drag from a Krystal. On a busy saturday, I'd just hand the shop monkey $20 and tell him to go get a bag of Cheese Krystals, would feed the whole crew. You could make a mint opening a White Castle next to a dispensary...

Went to In-and-Out Thornton location at around 11:15am today. Long drive-thru, but no dine-in lines. only 1 or 2 tables available to eat.
They are building Raising Cane's next door, and that restaurant has long drive-thru as well. This strip will be full of traffic during lunch/dinner hours.

It is cheaper than many fast food places, and in and out makes it hotnfresh.
As for Cane's , it is cheap as well. I can order Caniac 6piece combo and just split it with my wife (3pcs each). $12.99 Lunch for 2.

I love in-n-out. Wish we had a western slope location. It's much "fresher" and legit than other fast food. Simple ingredients. Tastes great. I think they are conservative too....

I have my doubts we'll get one only because of proximity to their distribution-thingies.

Their ice tea or lemon aide has been spot on, and always fresh tasting.

In-N-Out is good, and I will eat there if there is one in the area, but if I am not in the area, I won't drive an hour just to eat there.

I was born & raised in Enid, OK - grew up on burgers w/grilled onions, ain't nothing better! And 80/20 meat is best, the fat gives a lot more flavor. Leaner meat isn't as tasty.

I fully admit to wanting a Whataburger based solely on sentimental reasons. Twenty-eight years in southeast Texas and it was definitely a place that I grabbed lunch way more than any McDonalds, Burger King, etc. I would probably put Dairy Queen above Whataburger but they were different in Texas back in the day. The chicken fried steak sandwich was my favorite. Can?t remember if they called that the beltbuster or the hungerbuster but it was yummy.

I can?t get too pumped for anything from the west coast because I?ve never spent time there and the thought of any more Californication of Colorado just ruffles my feathers.

I miss the old Sonic chicken fried steak sandwich. Living up here in FoCo there isn?t a good place to get a chicken fried steak. They ran Black Eyed Pea out of here and their steak was killer. Tried Texas Road Houses?, Chilis?, etc. I am a pretty good cook but my attempts fail to please. Guess I need to visit Texas?

If you are in Westminster, Parker or COS you can get some killer Chicken Fried Steak at Saltgrass Steakhouse.

Of course I always get their dry aged ribeye. ;)
