View Full Version : Good place to shoot NFA items?
Hello everyone.. new to posting in these forums but thought it would be a good place to ask if there is a good location to shoot NFA items (M16) in/near the Front Range?
I understand there are public shooting areas such as Pawnee and others in the National Forest but didn't know if MGs were frowned upon in these locations or not?
And to avoid the inevitable question/comment - yes we are talking legal NFA with appropriate stamps, paperwork, etc.
Thanks for your input!
I can't imagine that you'll have much of a problem unless you are at an indoor range or something. I have to be honest though, I haven't been to many ranges.

I've seen and met several people up at Pawnee with NFA items, no trouble at all. You may want to find a secluded area though, or you'll have the whole range yappin' at you!

I shoot NFA at the south site with no problems BUT, as the above post, be ready to get your ear talked off.

Silver Bullet at 35th and Harlan used to allow it. Haven't been there for awhile. It's also kosher at CCCSC gun club by Dumont but you need to be a member or guest of a member. A couple of weekends back, I was breaking in a RPD post sample. Two State Patrol cruisers had pulled in and were using the bay next door. I did a 100 rnd dump. My buddy had a Guidelamp M3 Greasegun, another F/A RPD and a DP28. We probably cooked over 1500 rounds between us. With all the racket, they didn't even seem to care since it's pretty common there. Alan Samuels is on the board, so you know we're among the good guys, LOL!
I was at Ben Lomond last weekend, and somebody a couple ranges over had some full-auto's. Didn't go bother him to see what they were, but I found some steel .30 cal. links and HXP .30-06 brass there later on. Probably a 1919 of some sort. I'm jealous.

Where the heck would I find a "Greasegun" for sale? I've always wanted one and cannot seem to find any for sale.

Gunbroker has a tiny NFA market. Ditto for GunsAmerica and AuctionArms. Post a WTB (Want to Buy) for a transferable M3 on one of these boards and you'll likely get a response. M3 prices will probably be in the mid teens so don't waste people's time if you're not ready to drop that sort of coin.
Personally, for about the same money, I'd prefer a Group Industries BAR, but that's just me.

Since it's C&R, you can get the $30 C&R license and have it transferred directly to you instead of going through a local C3 SOT.

shoot my Thompson there, just be considerate of nearby shooters.
8 miles east of DIA on I 70, 3 miles south on Watkins Rd.
Trap and skeet is public range, rifle pistol is private to members and guests only.
