View Full Version : Cop Gifts KY Jelly to Suspect
http://www.miamiherald.com/news/nation-world/national/article187445743.html
TLDR:
Officer pulls over reckless driver. Driver opens fire, hitting officer 3 times. Driver gets life.
Officer, during victim's statement, pulls out a bottle of KY Jelly:
“I brought a little gift for you,” the officer told Rojas, according to Action News Jax. “You will need it where you are going.”

F-them and their earts.
When I saw the dude's pic, I thought it was a lesbian until I read the name. Hope he can fight, cus he's just pretty enough to make some iron-chucking, "give me yo co'nbread" style beast hot under the orange collar.
That's fantastic. Wonder if they'll let the guy take it to jail with him.

Sounds professional to me. Great for public relations. Really?

Did you read the article? The cop's 14-year-old son was there. He could have been shot.
Considering the circumstances, I'd say a bottle of KY likely hammered it home (see what I did there?) to this asshole that shot at the cop, more than the trial did.

He will have to keester stash it....

This seems like the opposite problem of a knife or pair of scissors in a package which needs a knife or pair of scissors to open.

Oh, she gets it and so do I.
Too many folks these days doing whatever the hell they like, regardless of how it affects others. The punk had no concern for anyone other than himself and was willing to take the lives of others (thankfully that wasn't the result in this situation). This officers gesture make a clear statement to the convict and the public that incarceration by itself is the least of is punks problems - the penalty will bite you in the ass (or pound you...). What could have resulted in a 30 day stay in County jail was turned into a prolonged stay in prison with all of the unsavory activities it entails. Maybe it will get the next guy to consider that it's far worse in prison than simply having your movements restricted. Maybe, just maybe, the next guy will stop short of escalating an encounter.
I applaud the officer.
You still don't get it.
Well, why don't you 'splain it to me, Lucy. If this off-duty cop had just watched this scab continue on his merry criminal way, you can bet there'd be reprisals once it came to light that the officer could have stopped him. The article doesn't give details as far as how the kid was beng a reckless driver, but I would think it was something that was enough to make the officer stop from taking his son to school and say to himself, "I'd better stop this guy, before he kills someone." As far as I know, law enforcement may work on shifts, but it's a full-time job. So he attempts to stop the driver, who bails out of his car and SHOOTS the cop, three times. I'm not sure why the officer was wearing his ballistic vest (that said "POLICE" on it) but I'm sure his family and friends were incredibly thankful for the foresight. The driver stole another car and barricaded himself in a house, where he then shot the officer in question THREE more times (that would be six times, in total) before they apprehended him.
The 19-year old had a fight with his girlfriend, grabbed a gun and shot it off a few times before saying that "the day may be [his] last one," before jumping into his car and driving it erratically.
Are you expecting police officers to emulate Judge Dredd? They're human. Are you getting that fact?

I'm still waitng for you to explain to me what I just don't get about the OP.
Your o-so-subtle attempts to make it seem like cops are bad because of the KY incident, followed by this tragic situation are not only ill-advised on this forum, but they're starting to piss me off. Stirring the pot with what you think are clever posts is one thing. Painting law enforcement officers with a broad brush because of one acts in a way YOU deem unprofessional is another.
Before I continue, tell me this: are YOU a law enforcement officer? If not, does your career choice put your life and possibly your loved ones at risk?

Allow me to explain for everyone.
Police officers aren't supposed to act like that in the public eye. He's a real life person, and his emotional response is understandable, and in this case even applauded by many. Regardless, I'm sure it's against department policy and he'll probably get a light slap on the wrist. Taken at face value, it is not something that looks good to the public, which is why there are such policies in the first place.
It's pretty much exactly the same situation as the interaction between TheGrey and BushMasterBoy concerning the post pointing out where the officer's professionalism faltered. As TheGrey is a person, everyone can understand her empathy for the officer's situation, so even though her emotional outburst toward members pointing out facts looks bad, since it mostly does not affect her ability to do her job as a moderator, everyone will likely understand and move on with their lives.
That's what would happen in a situation where leaders are able to remove themselves from a discussion with charged emotions. We'll see what really happens though.
10 to 1 the ACLU already has lawyers on this.

Cop in uniform kills girlfriend. Bad image. Cop in court promoting extra judicial punishment, still makes LE look bad. Forum members promoting extra judicial punishment makes me look bad. I'll pass on anymore discussions in this thread.

I know this thread is locked and my commenting now is taking advantage of liberties not available to the general membership. Because the quoted comment above chaps my ass so badly I'm exercising a little RHIP.
NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE - either the cop in the courtroom nor members of this site were "promoting extra judicial punishment" for this convict. The members of this site as well as the officer involved understand the reality of what occurs in prison. While it isn't pretty it is a REALITY. The officers actions in court were made to paint a clear picture of what that reality is for the convict who chose his actions especially poorly. I still believe that the presentation of KY jelly as a "gift" to the convict, in court, (even though the convict will never actually be able to take it with him) is a grim reminder to the convict and a warning to others that very bad things happen to people in prison and they are all due part & parcel to the poor choices one makes.
