I just called Directv and they have a holiday promotion going on. If you are a current customer you can get $50 or $60 a month off your bill for a year. No strings or contract required. Check it out. My bill went from $83 per month to $23. The number I used was 1-800-778-3397
Got a phone number for where I can make a ton of money working from home?

Are you saying the original post is not correct?
My bill is a lot more than $83 a month and I thought I had agreed to a new 2-year commitment when I switch my cell phone service to AT&T and got a "big" discount for that.
Seemed like something I would see in the comments on some web page. Just struck me as kind of spammy here in the forums.
If you feel the desire to call, don't let me stand in your way.
wonder if OP got hacked...
LOL, I called and got my bill lowered from $140 down to $60 for the next 12 months with no contract extension. Pretty darn good deal if you have them. :)

Okay, I called the number with Gman's permission.
There was no specific holiday promotion, but the representative did a search of all discounts that I have not used.
I upgraded the service from HD to HD with Genie, including free upgrades of 3 boxes and remotes - to be installed next week.
The installation fee of $24 was added and then credited.
I changed my Premium Package around switching to HBO from Showtime (additional $4/month savings for special HBO pricing this month - for 12 months).
And, I got the maximum discount of $60 off a month for 12 months - savings of $720 for the year with no charges for the upgrades.
The representative explained that discount was available because I have been with DirectTV for 5 years and have not asked for any discounts. (Shame on me??)

Thanks!

I did some quick Googling and it looks like the real deal. There's a Reddit that was posted 14 days ago that DirecTV was giving "loyalty discounts". This was picked up by Slick Deals, Tech Crunch, etc.

I love you guys. I called, got a $60 a month discount for next 12 months. Now I am paying $20.98 a month.
THOSE FU@%*RS!!!
About a year and a half ago, I called them to see what they could do for a 20+ year customer in good standing. After over 45 or more agonizing minutes on the phone arguing, complaining and pleading, they were "finally" able to give me a $20/month promo discount for 12 months, and a "just call at the end of the term, and we can set something up for you again".
Several months back, when my rate went back to normal, I called again, to see what they could do on my bill. All I got was a "Thank you for being a loyal customer, but we have nothing available to you at this time".
Sorry, I said, but I will no longer be needing your services. They didn't bat an eye.
Now they're handing out near-free programming, presumably to stop the exodus of cord cutters tired of the overpriced programming? Thanks for nothing, a-holes.
Good for you guys, though. If they had given me a deal like that, I would have gladly stuck it out for another year.

Disconnected them when I left Colorado (the first time, in Oct 2016)... haven't missed them, especially their billing shenanigans.
Definitely legit, called last night, the rep knew exactly what I was asking about. My bill will drop from $81 to $31.
I'd cut the cord if I could get decent internet. Wasn't there supposed to be someone new or some new technology that improves rural internet this year?

5G, will be rolled out in "select markets" during 2018... of course urban areas get it first... because rural folks don't bring as much profit.
Capable of greater than 1Gbps, as long as the tower has that bandwidth (which can be the hard part in rural areas)

I have to admit I was very apprehensive about posting and having it thought that I was posting a scam. I called directv first and then posted to make sure it was OK. Just thought it was to good a deal not to let others know about, especially other rural dwellers who do not have access to everything that is offered in the cities. Hope it works out well for all who try.
thanks! i just called and got $80 off for a year and an additional $12 off for 6 months for having stars and hbo.

I find it to be such a value I'll gladly throw down 300% of my yearly fee.
Can we sponsor a veteran for a year like NRA?

Dang, I was afraid of that!
Save a buck one place, end up spending a buck another.
Just what happened this year with Social Security and Medicare.
The increase in one was matched by the expense increase in the other.

Just got $73 a month taken off my bill for a year. Thanks for posting this. I really appreciate it.
I only got $20 a month off (Ultimate package). Oh well. Bill was ~ $130, now ~ $110. Not bundled with anything.
Folks getting tons off, could you post your package, if you're bundled with phone or internet and how long you've been a customer? I've been a customer for probably over 15 years. My ex-wife kept the account we got the DAY DirecTV first became available (June 17th, 1994? - as Hughes Electronics - I've got a story about the very first reciever smoking when I plugged it in :)).

I've been a customer for almost exactly 2 years. Only TV and on the Xtra Preferred package, no movie channels either.
If you don't know, the xtra preferred is the same as the extra without the $8 a month local sports channel charge. We also lost the golf and tennis channels.... it's still hard to sleep but eventually, we'll get over it. ;-)
We have a Genie and 5 mini's.
This was our bill
DIRECTV Channels 95.28
DIRECTV Equipment Services 50.00
I called and said I was considering Dish due to the promotions on their site and asked what they could do. The trick is that you have to get to the retention department.
She gave me $60 a month off of the Xtra (plus we'll get the ~$8 for dropping local sports) and $20 a month off of hardware.
Hope this helps.

You need a referral program where everyone donates 10% of the savings that resulted from a post here. :)
I had seen someone else post about this on another forum I frequent. Was skeptical, then saw this thread here. Called and got $40/month knocked off. Nice.
Gave this number to my neighbors. One of them called and is saving something like $1,400 over the next year. The other one thinks it's a scam and won't call because he can't find the number on their website. I suggested that he just call a number he is comfortable with and ask them directly. Still won't do it. Oh well.

I have the basic package. I paid my bill tonight, and it was $23 with taxes. Close enough to the $21 they told me, so I'm not going to complain. They offered the sports package upgrade for free for 6 months, she said I could watch all the NFL games. I told her no thank you, I didn't realize they were still playing football. Lol.

Some people hate money.
Over I believe. I told a friend, he called this evening, recording referred him to the regular direct line, customer service rep said no longer any holiday offers available. Glad I called when I did.

Glad I decided to call when I did, too. Free money!
I know you can get a discount for referring a customer. All you need is their account number and you both get $10 off for a arbitrary time. Let me know if you want to use my number?
Just to update this thread...
Back in Dec when I called DirecTV about canceling they agreed to lower my bill by $180 a month, from ~$140 down to about $60 and give us 6 months of free HBO and Max. Last night there was an issue where DirecTV was trying to DVR a show off of a channel in NY (390) instead of Channel 4 so I called in to see if they knew about the issue. Apparently the issue has been resolved but before I could hang up they offered me another $10 a month off with no commitment or $30 a month off if I'd commit to 12 months.
Basically, our bill has gone from $140 back in Dec to $30 a month for the next year.... crazy.
