We had a feeling about it but had the Vet come over this morning to check him out. Large tumor on his left side that’s most likely cancer. He’s lost near a 1/3 his body weight, low energy and now he’s stopped eating. We’ve had him since he was 7 weeks old and years before our only child. I don’t think he has much left in the tank and I’m trying to hold my shit together while at work. Hug, kiss and love your pets for they love you unconditionally. Sorry for the downer of a post, especially on a Friday, but I just needed to vent a little bit. Thanks guys and Merry Christmas.

Damn, that is awful to hear! So sorry. Unless they're a dog person, a lot don't get it. Dogs are as much of a member of the family as any human, IMO. It sounds like you have a tough decision to make, and I don't envy you, having been in that position a few times in my life. Sorry to hear. [sorry]

Hang in there, KS...... I know it's tough.

That's rough. Just make sure you make the decision based on what's right him and not based on how it will make you feel.

Hang in there man.. fur kids are family too..

As long as you've given him the best life you could for him, I'm sure he has no complaints except having to poo outside.. so primitive.

It would be interesting to see someone train their pup to use a toilet... like a refined, modern person. My dog loves going outside, it gives him an opportunity to smell things and bark at wind.

So sorry! They become such a large part of our lives, and leave far too soon.

All too familiar with the pain you're feeling right now. But they count on us to do the right thing for them, no matter how difficult. So sorry....

Thanks for all the well wishes. I left work early today to spend some time with him and found him outside in a shallow bed he made for himself. Brought him back inside and covered with a warm blanket. Unfortunately, we had to say goodbye to Niu (Hawaiian for coconut. He’s a West Highland White Terrier) and that was the hardest thing I had to do. Going to miss my reloading partner. We love and count the days until we see you again!

Damn dude I’m there with ya, our little dog just got diagnosed with cancer as well. Been a few weeks of vet visits , really makes you appreciate and love them even deeper when shit gets real. My condolences to your family. Pets go to a better place than we can possibly imagine. Nothing ever makes it easy to say goodbye , but it does give an opportunity to save another life.
Adopt !
Both of my rascals are rescues and there are way too many loving dogs that deserve better than what they have been dealt. Saving a life does worlds for the sole after losing one.

Brother, I'm right there with you and both of these guys - trying to keep my composure and not lose a tear.

Someone once said that pets lives are short because they love so much that they eventually run out of the love that keeps them going. Something like that anyway. My pets are and always have been a part of my family. When they pass they leave a huge hole inside of me that can't be filled again.

For the most part, we've gotten another pet after we lose one - not to replace them but to keep us so occupied with the new one that we don't have time to dwell on our loss and sadness.

The best we can ever do for our furry family members to return the love they so willingly share with us is to give them as much love as we can and never let their mistakes cause us to lose our temper with them. This way, when they do move along, we'll both be filled with nothing but great memories.

Very sorry for your loss brother. Stay stong for Niu as you know he'd never want you to be sad and enjoy all of the womderful moments you two had together. Blessings my friend.

I'm very sorry for your loss. Lots of good words here about pets. Spend the time you can with them.

Damn. Those critters just suck you in, don't they? Then they love you unconditionally. The nerve. Too bad they don't stick around longer, but then I think the parting would be even that much harder to take. It hurts like hell to see them go. You gave that pup a great life and you'll have the memories to keep.

My condolences.

The greatest wish I've ever had is that my dog could've lived as long as me. I miss them all so very much. Niu looked like he lived a great life and he has you to thank for that. I could care less about the angels, when I hit the pearly gates, I want to be greeted by all the great dogs that made it there before me.

Lots of folks here get it. So sorry. I typically spend time looking at all the old pics I can find of a departed pup. There’s tears, to be sure, but pretty soon you find a goofy pic of him doing something silly you forgot about, and find yourself laughing a little. Helps me to celebrate the goodness that they contributed to my life. Hang in there.

Every time I see one of these posts it chokes me up a bit, and makes me think of my guys I lost over the years, remember them, and know how hard it is for you. It's a good reminder of what's important - family. And dogs are family.

I have pics of every dog I've had in our house to keep their memory alive. All are buried on our property. We will see them again someday. They're all looking down and saying, "Thank you for such a wonderful life!"

Words seem trivial in times like this but I'm truly sorry for your loss and know the pain all-too-well.

Rest easy Nui.

I'm so very sorry to hear this, and I know it doesn't help much right now to know that you gave him a wonderful life. I've been there with two of our cats, and it was beyond agony and beyond words. You'll meet up again with little Niu one day.

Losing furkids is awful. He'll be at the rainbow bridge waiting. 2 years ago, we lost both of our huskies in 9 days, I feel your pain.

I'm sorry to hear man. I think my pup's own time to go is in the not-too-distant future. We keep in mind the fact that we've provided them with a great quality of life and they will die happy with their family. (Had 5 dogs - all rescues. Down to 4 now.)

Give them the best life you can and love them as hard as you can - I’ll snuggle mine a bit harder tonight. She is about 1/4 through this life and I always try to remember that as time rolls on.

My deepest condolences. With three in the house, I truly understand the love dogs garner. And the never ending supply they return.

My family thanks everyone here for the kind words, empathy and encouragement. It really does make a difference. This group we have here is second to none in support of its members and I’m proud to be included in this Family.
