Apparently the NYC Subway Attempt-A-Suicide-Pipe Bomber entered the U.S. via a process known as chain immigration. I’m sure this has been going on for quite awhile and probably has it’s roots in the Immigration reform laws of the 60’s.

Pulled all of the following from here,

https://www.whitehouse.gov/articles/time-end-chain-migration/

so take the info for what it’s worth.

Well that's certainly an eye opener for what I see where I live.

This is also known as" immigration." Calling it Chain Immigration is just a dumb attempt to drum up new fear over something that has never changed. People relocate to be with family? Sounds the alarms! Chain Immigration is the same as Gunshow Loophole.

I ask this because I don't know. Does "chain" immigration change the vetting process for each subsequent family member?

Honestly, I've never immigrated, or even know an adult that has, so I don't know. I just know an info graphic created to plant an opinion with no actual thought (most of them) when I see one.

I will watch now.

I watched. I think I've actually seen that video before. It wasn't as moving as I'd hoped.

It's not really the same as "immigration". Or it shouldn't be. Having an immigration policy in place where there are standards for allowing people to enter the country based on their skills, training or other benefit to our society is perfectly acceptable and it's what we should be doing.

Allowing chain immigration, people following family members who've been allowed to immigrate here, without regard to any benefit they may be able to bring with them, creates huge social and other problems in this country.

I'm all for reforming our immigration system and policies from top to bottom and stopping this process would be a good place to start. But it's gonna take more than that.

Thank you for providing a voice of reason to this! I agree 100%. Immigrating to another country should be based on what you can bring to the table to benefit that country. Look at other nation's (developed nations, not Somalia) and how they deal with allowing people in (not refugees). Canada has some pretty strict requirements for citizenship, along with Mexico (imagine that!).

Coming to the US to live in a segregated community where you never have to learn to speak English or integrate into society isn't the answer. The US has historically had higher standards for immigration and should return to those values.

Only a limited number of immigrants are accepted into the country every year. Each time another link in the "chain" comes here, that's a spot taken away from an otherwise worthy person working within the system to immigrate legally.

I agree. I deal with it from time to time. I don't speak spanish fluently... I've gone out of my way to learn more and more- just because I see the trend we're going in. But on the other hand, I don't want to make things any easier for them. They move here, they should learn the language. You'd be a pretty big A-Hole if you moved to Germany and refused to learn German.
