So new guy started at work been in US for a few years and is from Scotland and served with British military
and did multiple tours in Afghanistan. He claims to have multiple confirmed kills which he likes to talk about. Anyone know how to confirm his stories aren't BS

It seems like most people who “like to talk about” their “confirmed kills” are bullshitters. The people I know who served don’t like to talk about that stuff, at least not with anyone but those they served with.

Might look at something like socnet or light fighter. They tend to attract other nation's military.

However, as kpp stated, most people who legit have been overseas and were involved in heavy combat or at least enough of it to get kills don't go bragging about it. They might talk of their time overseas, funny stories, others' exploits, but rarely to never their own.

Yes, this x 1000. "Sniper" and "confirmed kills" are two of the biggest poser red flags. (along with "Navy SEAL" or "Green Beret".)

You could try dropping a line to Jonn Lilyea over at http://thisainthell.us They are pretty much in the business of busting military fraudsters. He can likely point you to a British group that will be able to find info on the guy.

The Brits, Canadians and Aussies refer to military fakers as "Walts" (as in "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.")

Just wanna know why it matters? If your gut says he's full of shit, he more than likely is. Fk 'em...leave it at that and don't waste another minute of your life on it.

Depending on the industry, job, business, etc., this sort of behavior can have a massive impact on a company and ability to maintain their brand, etc.

If he's lying about service, what else is he lying about? What else is he capable of lying about? How far will he go in order to embezzle, defraud, etc.? What else is he hiding or lying about that makes him a blackmail target, and thus a risk?

I always enjoy good storytellers. All the REAL operators I know don't talk much about missions, it's like pulling teeth getting ANY info out of them. But now and again I run across someone who tells stories well. I enjoy fiction novels as well as non-fiction. My advice is to decide which classification he is in and enjoy the stories accordingly.

Tell him to his face that you think he's full of shit, and maybe he'll do all the leg work of proving himself for you.

This is my suggestion as well... Chances are he'll just stop talking, which might be a win in the OP's eyes anyway.

Just ask if he has any cool pictures of his service. If he really was Scots Guards, he is a badass.

Want to easily prove him a fake it if it really matters? Just be highly manipulative yourself.

The real trick here is not to study real information, but to be a convincing faker yourself - not of service, but with troves of fake knowledge. After listening to some story he retells, ask specific questions to block him in - such as operation name, or region.

then say something to the effect that your brother served over there, did he see the bombed out ferrari by the main road? Everyone saw that. Crazy how much money the terps had to spend. (e.g., use this structure). Don't be too generic like "Mosque" but something truly unique and stand-out story that your brother "retold" - that you've completely bullshitted but would be unforgettable to anyone on the op. Without google, he has to answer "yes" or "uhh. that shit wasn't there when I was...".

Other ideas: The Iraqi Mcdonalds right next to the base that doubled as a whore house any everyone at the base was aware of it. You get the idea...

This only works if you have a good poker face and you act like you believe him.
