View Full Version : Another New Member - Former Lurker
Hi all,
I've been lurking for a while and am quickly getting bit by the AR-15 bug as despite the magazine capacity laws everything else makes it seem like a really good time to get into the sport. I've relatively recently completed Concealed Carry Training, have my Permit, and I carry every day (Ruger LC9s.) So far I have been out to The Firing Line and Centennial Gun Club ranges for practice. Other hobbies include computers, food/fitness, motorcycles, and recently I am getting into home automation with Amazon's Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, Zigbee and Z-Wave devices. I hope to use them for things like active home monitoring and protection.
Looking forward to participating and hopefully sharing ya'lls knowledge!

Hello and welcome!
Enjoy!![Beer]
What made you stop lurking?
I have a lot of questions about guns in general, the AR-15 and building my first, concealed carry, ranges, shooting clubs, etc. I also have seen reference to a Trading Post, which I thought I should check-out to help me make an informed decision on my first AR-15 purchase. But I still don't see it, so I think I have a waiting period to get through before I can, and I'm not sure I can wait that long before pulling the trigger (ahem) on my first purchase. :D
I also like the atmosphere here, with good discussion on topical issues of the day. It helps my mind stay fresh and introduces me to new ideas and concepts, from tech to politics, and I would also like to participate in some of those discussions as well.
In short, I joined mainly because I have a lot of questions and like to talk a lot. :)
Thanks all for the nice welcome!

Edit: I have now read the Trading Post Announcement Thread and understand that new members need to wait 30 days before they have access.

John,
Welcome to COAR15.
Yes, there is a 30 day wait period to access the Trading Post. This was implemented to reduce those coming to the site simply to hock their wares without participating in any of the myriad of discussions we have here. I'm sure you'll find those 30 days will fly by, particularly if/when you start delving into the various discussions.
We have lots of great information here for those just getting into firearms as well as those who've been around them their whole lives. Practically every day I learn something new here, either about firearms themselves or the politics/legislation surrounding them. I hope you'll find that we encourage questions, thrive on information and look to help others with this hobby/lifestyle. Of course, we have our share of "A .45 is better than a 9mm" and "Brand X AR recievers are crap" type of discussions where folks with strong viewpoints get offended by countering viewpoints. Sometimes those discussions get heated and emotions run high. Don't let that put you off as ultimately, if it's a firearm, we can usually respect it (okay, maybe not with Hi-Points, those don't get much love here).
We consider ourselves to be a family oriented community wherein all of our members are a part of our own extended families. You're now a part of that family.
Again, welcome.
Welcome.
A couple of asshats here but mostly a bunch of good, knowledgeable people from all walks of life. Once you figure out who the asshats are you can ignore them and enjoy your time here.
