ZACKARI PARRISHDeputy Sheriff Zackari Parrish was shot and killed after responding to a disturbance call at an apartment complex at 3404 E. County Line Road, in Highlands Ranch, at approximately 5:15 am.
Deputy Parrish and other deputies were speaking to the occupants of the apartment when one of them barricaded himself inside a bedroom. The man opened fire with a rifle, killing Deputy Parrish and wounding three other deputies.
The three wounded deputies were able to retreat to safety. Responding officers, including regional SWAT team members, re-entered the apartment to rescue Deputy Parrish. The subject inside opened fire on the officers, wounding a Castle Rock police officer before being shot and killed.
The subject fired over 100 rounds during the incident, wounding two citizens in addition to shooting the officers.
Deputy Parrish had served with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office for seven months and had previously served with the Castle Rock Police Department for two years. He is survived by his wife and two children.

I know there's a whole thread. I still wanted to have his ODMP EOW posted on here
As it should be. Thank you for doing it.

Agreed.
Kevin, thank you for these posts. I rarely comment because I have no words. I can only imagine the difficulty you have in posting them.

Very sad and disturbing. Bless him and his family, and the rest that were injured.
So sad. My heart and prayers go out to the family and the DCSO family. I'll never understand the broken people who act this way.

Today we are showing support. Meeting at the Littleton Kings Soopers 6760 Pierce St, 80128 at 4:30pm and driving down to Castle Rock for officer support.
Great way to show LEO support on the first day of 2018.
Very Sad. RIP and thanks for your service

Well that's crappy. Very sad. I hope the officers injured recover fully, it sounds bad.
There's a lot of crazies out there.
Absolutey heartbreaking. The memorial was gut-wrenching, but the undercurrent of support was palpable.
RIP, Deputy Parrish.

I don't have first-hand knowledge of this, and I have no idea if it's correct, but someone on my town FB group posted this:
DO NOT make contributions to any crowdfunding sites such as GoFundMe! This will create an unnecessary tax burden on the family, and a percentage of the donations goes to the crowdfunding site! Please donate to the below fund, a 501(c)(3) that ensures 100% of your contribution goes to the fallen officer's family.
http://www.dcsheriff.net/fallen-officer-fund/
Please let me know if that is incorrect and I will delete.

It is true and I have posted in the past. There are other ways to donate. Gofundme takes 20 percent of all earnings. The person receiving the money is responsible for tax payments of the entire amount (including what is paid to gofundme). Many people have suffered from this. It is recommended to let all funds sit and rest until all tax settlements have been made.
Also be aware of any scams that claim they are supporting the family. Although I don't know of the IRS going after the family on the scams, I would say they are susceptible to additional scrutiny if the IRS thinks they are getting that money from a scam.

Well, now we are seeing that the perpetrator in this shooting was long known to law enforcement in multiple states including Lone Tree PD.

And had been hospitalized at the VA for mental issues. He escaped.

I stopped by the Highlands Ranch substation today to briefly visit a friend at work. The memorial out front was heartbreaking yet heartwarming at the same time. I hope that is understandable. The community response gives me a glimmer of hope that, even though those that know me well frequently hear my comment about how people mostly suck, I truly know there are good people out there and they do care.
I'm glad the puke that took Deputy Parrish's life and injured the other deputies is taking the terminal dirt nap. I'm happier that there are brave men and women out there that will continue to put themselves in harms way and deal with the ugly underbelly of society so the good people out there can live relatively normal, peaceful lives. Again, I hope this makes sense.
Be safe all.

I was there all day today for meetings. The memorial tore me up.
