View Full Version : Oregon allows limited self service gas ... people lose their s--t.

Apparently a new law went into effect on the 1st allowing for Self Service gas in rural counties (counties with population under 40k). In Oregon, Self Service gas had been illegal, along with New Jersey.

Local station up there posted about it on their facebook and the comments are hillarious (both from Oregonian snowflakes afraid to pump their own gas to everyone else piling on them).

This is tangentially related to firearms as the liberals are so afraid of pumping their own gas you can see how they'd be super afraid of people defending themselves with firearms.

All one has to do in Oregon for self defense is carry a lighter.

Yes, this was the funniest thing on the internet yesterday.

Oregon's idiotic law actually caused me to run out of gas on a trip back in 2012. I had planned to fill up at a station in a small town but by the time we got there, the station was closed (it closed at 5:00pm.) With nobody to pump the gas I couldn't fill up. Tried to make it to the next city (Prineville) but ran out of gas about 6 miles short.

The funniest thing about this is that the purported reason to keep the "no self service" law in place is to "protect jobs." Yes, that's right, they want to protect the job of "gas pumper", a job title that has become shorthand for every low paying, no-skill, no-future, job.

Here's a great sample response:

FEAR NOT OREGON!!!!

I've decided to move to Oregon to open a school to teach people how to pump their own gas. Short term business you say? HA! I will simply branch out and offer classes on such complicated things as:
1. Tying your own shoes.
2. Dressing yourself.
3. Operating a self checkout machine.
4. Dial your own phone.
5. Mow your own lawn.
6. Split your own firewood.
7. How to feed yourself.
8. Make your own dinner.
9. Wash, dry and fold your own laundry. (Extra charge as these are three classes taught separately)
10. Operating a can opener, manual and electric.
11. Counting past 10.
12. Wiping your own butt.

I understand Oregon, adulting is hard and sometimes you someone to show you how. I'm here for you.

Another gem:

One time, my dad came to Oregon and pumped his own gas. The street immediately lit on fire and he caused massive recession countrywide because he took away 20 billion jobs by pumping his own gas. I was in the back seat when brother was nabbed through the locked door by a transient creeper who raised him to be his human ottoman. My dad then tried wiping his windshield but the stuff he used turned out to be sulfuric acid. The car exploded with me in it and I died. My dad lost 3 parenting points because he was 2 feet away fueling his car when he could have had someone else do this very simple task for him.

No! Disabled, seniors, people with young children in the car need help. Not to mention getting out of your car with transients around and not feeling safe too. This is a very bad idea. Grrr

Yep so because my mom can not pump her gas she will have to pay more. Good solution to people on a very fixed income. You obviously do not live here. It's dark at 5 and when I choose to get my gas has no bearing on whether or not I should be forced to pump my gas. I loved the fact that I didn't have to get out in the wind and rain to pump my gas. Thanks to all you idiots who have now put seniors in the position of having to pay more for gas and making it inconvenient for us who have lived in Oregon and enjoyed that little service.

You all who want to pump your own gas had no business moving to Oregon. Go back to California. We were doing fine here without you.

Not a good idea, there are lots of reason to have an attendant helping, one is they need a job too. Many people are not capable of knowing how to pump gas and the hazards of not doing it correctly. Besides I don't want to go to work smelling of gas when I get it on my hands or clothes. I agree Very bad idea.

OMG, if you have the time you have to go over to the KTVL CBS 10 Facebook page.

People are posting "gas pumping" comments in every article.

Examples: The article entitled "Russian army demonstrates latest weapon: Cuddly puppies. The Russian Armed Forces has unveiled its latest cutting-edge weapon in a New Year greetings video: cuddly puppies."

Comment:
They won't be cute when they become targets for transients because their owners are too busy being distracted from having to pump their own gas.

Article entitled: "Vandals target local neighborhood mulitple times"

Comment:
If the fucktards where not out pumping their own gas they could be watching over their Plastic Walmart chairs.

Article entitled: "New Oregon workplace, consumer protection laws in effect as of January 1"

Comment:
Will these laws protect the fine people of the great state of Oregon from the horrific side effects of pumping their own gas? I pumped gas once, my wife packed up the kids and left me. She couldn't imagine being married to a man who would stoop so low as to pump his own gas. Also I caught Chlamydia from a gas pump back in 1998. #PrayForOregon #OregonStrong

Article entitled: "Caught on camera: Texas police officer nearly hit by sliding car"

Comment:
He later went on to pump a full 15 gallons of gas. Incident free.

I lived in Oregon when they tried to get the law changed back in the '80s. You wouldn't believe the propaganda commercials. A woman pumping gas in a dress while it's raining and the filler backs up on her.

Having moved there from TX where we pumped our own gas, it was bizarre. One of the arguments that they made is that Oregon had one of the lowest gas prices in the country at the time. Not sure how that's related.

My uncles would come up to visit from California and they would naturally start pumping their own gas, only to have someone running from the station office waving their arms and yelling "You can't do that! You can't do that!" Really? I'm quite capable.

I know: sexist attitude but I was 17 when they started doing that in a limited way after the first gas shortage.

I thought the same thing when I heard about this. I thought it was satire until I realized that actual news organizations were posting this story. Coming back from being stationed in Northern NY, I stopped for gas in Gary, IN, didn't realize it until I went in to get something to drink that I may have stopped in a not so great part of town (I was the only white person within 10 miles). I filled up with no incident. If a whiteboy can get gas in the hood, these whiny dumbnuts can pump their own in Oregon. [LOL]

Wait, so people claim it's going to cost MORE to pump your own gas?!?! Even when the station won't have to pay an attendant? That doesn't make sense at all. I'm not that old, but even I remember the days when gas station signs had two prices...full service and self service. And self service was less.

I lived in NJ for a summer. Every gas station, no matter how many pumps, had ONE attendant. One. After waiting time and again for someone to fill my tank for 10 or 15 minutes, I started just doing it myself. No one ever said anything. F their stupid socialist BS.

Man I didn't know there were places like this. I told my wife a while back that I remember the "Full Service" line when I was a kid at some gas stations. I'm blown away daily by this.

I'm in Colorado where we are forced to pump our own gas. Because I'm worried about my children being left in the car while I stand outside of it in my skirt, I just pay the transients to pump it for me. This way we're all safe and the transients are distracted from bothering those who are pumping their own gas.

Does this new self service apply to electric vehicles too? When I go back to Portland to visit, I drive to Vancouver to fill up. Alcohol laws are silly in Oregon too. Way mo trouble buying spirits than it should be.

I lived there for 5 years. A truck I used to own had a problem where you had to constantly hold the gas handle or else the pump would not work. After repeated attempts to set the handle and walk away the attendant finally told me I could get out and hold the handle down, so I did. You wouldn't believe the autistic screeching going on. One women was yelling to an attendant while pointing at me. Oregon is pretty, but for the most part filled with morons. One time my wife and I were walking in downtown Portland and a homeless guy on something was having a screaming conversation with an ATM machine. WHile across the street other homeless people were fist fighting for a doughnut. This is considered normal in Oregon, but pumping your own gas is not. Idiotic.

My last family visit I used a credit card to pay for the gas in my rental. By the time I got back to Colorado my account had an alert for a charge. I remember the guy taking the card for the transaction then asking again to rerun. Didn't think anything of it but now will pay in cash.

Maybe there is hope for Oregon then maybe not. The comments against pretty much sum up the entitlement mentality.

Please don't put any more ideas in their heads. There is no authority under the Constitution for the federal government to regulate the colors of gas pump handles and I'd rather not deal with even more SJW inventions of new federal powers. We should also add braille to the handles for vision impaired drivers. Wouldn't want to be ablest!

Braille? [Mad] Wow, that's so discriminatory. Not every visually impaired person can read braille, you know!

No, clearly what they need to do is mandate that each grade of gasoline be infused with a different flavor, so for example, regular unleaded could be chocolate, mid-grade could be peppermint, premium could be pumpkin-spice and E-85 could be orange flavored.

That way when visually impaired people want to pump gas they can just taste each gas pump until they find the one with the right flavor.

Dang, am I the only one who thinks these things through? [Rant2]
