Erasing data from smart phone with no display.

As some of you may have seen in another post, I dropped a dumbbell on my Galaxy S8+ and had to go through insurance to get a replacement. I received my replacement, but have to send the damaged phone back, problem is, the screen is completely blacked out, so I have no clue how to do a hard reset before sending my old phone (full of passwords, bank info, etc.) back to the insurance company. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

I would use your new one as a guide and get it to the boot menu and count button presses (vol up/down) to navigate to the factory reset option.

In addition, next time, just tell em you lost it so you don't have to deal with return.

Well I did some more research after posting this, and was able to log into "Android device manager" and erase from there. I may still do the magnet thing to be sure.

Take it out and shoot it with a 50, bury the rest 12' deep and deficate on it before you fill it back up.

Could you take it to a local provider store and ask them to plug it in and erase everything?

Open it up. Find the flash chip where the data is stored. Drill a crater in the chip large enough that the hackers can't recover the data. Don't drill all the way through the chip.

Oddly, the insurance and deductible on my new S8 makes it more likely to be "lost" than have a cracked screen or other damage.

Retail phone stores don’t have that capability. I worked many years at Tmobile while in college we never could do that.
