Was up there today and I was talking to a sheriff who was tellng me that the neghbors in the area are trying to get the range shut down. I guess there has been some wizers fly by homes(reported by people who live on the other side of the hill). Also, some people took a sound measuring device out at the road and had registered up to 80 decibles which is over city ordanance. I did see some targets hanging in the trees which is completely retarded. Anyway, not trying to scare people here but, just passing along the info I heard from one of the sheriffs who patrol the area.

I was up there today too. This was my first visit, and man I have to say it was quite disheartening to see how much crap was up there. I can't even begin to think how many empty cases there where on the ground, but it was in the thousands. We picked up hundreds of cases, but didn't even make a dent in it.

Pretty sad actually.

There were a few groups of people there today, and everyone was really friendly, and it was great to see some good people up there. One group let us borrow there target stand for a while and another group offered us some tape as we ran out of staple and our targets were flapping around. Thanks to everyone, and thanks to those that pick up there garbage and empty cases.

Hey I was the guy that let you barrow my target stand! Let me know if you need demensions. Yea it was my first trip to this range as well and yes it was pretty bad as far as trash but I've seen so much worse. I was stupid and forgot trash bags but found some small grocery bags in my truck to pack out as much as I could.

Man that stand is simply brilliant!! Thanks so much for letting us use it. It was nice up there but a little windy and a slight nip to the air. We stayed until about 4:30. It was a good day over all.

Was that your new .22 you were shooting? I was looking at that rifle too, and was going to get it if you didn't. Looked like a great deal

Yea my dad actually picked up that 10/22. I was there with my newly built 10/22 and was having problems with my new scope...it didnt help that it was windy with those little bullets trying to be consistant at 100yds! Anyway it was a great day for shooting[Beer]

I hope it doesn't get closed as I like it up there and my only other nearby area is Left Hand.

It'll only take a couple of idiots with no regard for safety or leaving their trash to have it closed though:(

I was up there on Thursday the 15th, and didn't see much trash or cases at all. Pretty clean. All that was there was a large pallet with boards so it can be stood up, and a smaller pallet at the short range to the left.

I don't know what happened between then and today. Pictures would help ;)

Yeah there was quite a bit of crap up there, and there were thousands and thousands of empty cases everywhere. It won't take much for them to close down a place like that. Very sad to see.

well thats going to suck, thats the only place i shoot at, left hand sucks.
always meet good people there.
if anyone has handed you a pocket constitution when you were there, that was me, i have given out almost 100 of them. I hand them out to to whomever is there when I go.

Thanks for passing this along. Over the summer I spoke at length with several rangers from the Boulder Ranger District who had a similar message: Any closure was not going to be promoted by them but instead come from ticked off neighbors. Losing the North site will really suck for people like me who just have rifles, because the Lefthand site, while convenient, is 50 yards range, max. I have been thinking about ways to bring responsible shooters and the locals together to help mitigate the tension. I can understand not wanting shooting close to one's home...

opie011, I am brainstorming target stand ideas. If you have a design you'd like to share, please PM me or post somewhere!

totallyunimodular this is the target stand that spleify was shooting at. I can not take credit for this stand....rondog came up with this nice stand. I shoot mosltly handguns so this is the only stand I have but you could google "target stand" and there's plenty to build from a quick search!!

Any ideas where to buy cheap target stand?

2x4's from Home Depot. See this thread for guidance, http://www.co-ar15.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12048&highlight=Uncle+Rondog%27s+target+stand (http://www.co-ar15.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12048&highlight=Uncle+Rondog%27s+target+stand) but make the frame 4ft. tall (uses one 2x4), with a 24" square frame at top covered with cardboard. Make the base very similar to the one in the thread, but make it to fit the 2x4 upright frame. Very sturdy and portable, can take a lot of damage, and withstands the wind very well.

The one in that thread is made from 2x2's, but it's too tall for my tastes. The wind slaps it around too much, and the bullets impact too high on the berms. The 2x2's also can't take as many errant hits before they bust. Just make one out of 2x4's, following the same basic plan. You can make extra upright frames, and just use the same base. Three 2x4's will make two frames.

I don't have a photo of a completed target stand V2.0, but here's what the upright looks like. Just make a base for this. Shorter, safer, sturdier, more stable. Piece o' cake.

thanks for the shooting stand pics and dimensions, I'll be making mine this week.

I'll try this weekend to get up at the site to help with cleanup. I'm supposed to be on call with no compensation, so being far away if called is best...

I'm planning to be up north tomorrow (sunday 11/8) - probably won't be until about noon or so. Brining some rakes, trash cans, wheel borrow probably and a friend. We'll do some cleanup and test a couple of firearms and my version of the target stand in this thread.

I made it on Sunday about 1pm. Several people there shooting, mostly shotgun, causing some interference for a few that wanted to get down range and change some targets. The kids wouldn't quit shooting, finally we just had to yell and wave them down, and start walking down the range.

Friend and I did some cleanup, brought a few bags and trashcan full back, picked up some of those big chunks of metal full of holes. Picked up about 20 pounds of steel shells with the magnet. Could spend all day doing that!

Shot some until it started getting colder and the sun was setting behind clouds.

Will try to make it up again in the near future. Site wasn't too bad for trash.
