I can't remember the exact date, but my high school girlfriends brother bought an AR-15 and I was fascinated with it. It took a few months, but one afternoon he called me and we went out and shot it. I remember thinking it felt like I couldn't miss compared to all the hunting rifles I had fired. I believe that was August of 1978, I was 17 years old. In 1983 I graduated college and got a job. One of the 1st things I bought with my new found income was a Colt AR-15.

Fast forward to 2000 and I fired my first M16.

When did you shoot your first AR-15 or M16?

Bob

2005 on my friends property. It was an Armalite AR15 made by Eagle Arms. It was basically an HBAR A-2 clone.

Some time in 2005, I rented one at Family Shooting Center at Cherry Creek State Park. I enjoyed it so much, that I built my own over the winter and completed assembling it in February 2006!

Superior Arms stripped lower with a DPMS parts kit, and a DPMS M4 upper.

Bought the first one from Dave's guns and police supply. Colt Hbar Elite. I remember telling him to give me a deal cause on the street he was known as good deal Dave. That wasn't true and he thought it was funny so they threw in a Harris bi pod and a cantilevered scope mount. Was in 98 or so.

October 1985 Fort Benning, GA. M16A1.

I bought my first one also from Dave's Guns in 1998 or 1999; it was a Colt LE carbine. Still have it and use it for work.

M-16A1 at Eglin AFB, June 1985. Got to rock it on full.
AR-15 with heavy barrel, A2 config albeit in semi, purchased early 2001 so I and some of my people could get some off-duty range time before weapons quals. It turned out I didn't need much practice but some of my guys did.

Probably about 5 years ago or so, still have the rifle. If I had to guess I'd say I've put between 10-15 thousand rounds through it.

2011.

A member here had one posted for trade so I shot him an email to see if I could interest him in a trade for my SA XD45 Bi-tone with some cash on my end. To my surprise, he agreed to do a straight across trade. I was into the SA for $400 and he wanted a carry piece for work. I had never even held an AR-15 or really knew anything about them truth be told. It had foilage green furniture, Superior Arms lower, YHM quad rail, YHM folding sight/gas block, and magpul furniture all the way around. I YouTubed videos on how to disassemble it and reassemble, cleaning, etc. I have been hooked since.

Summer of 1984 at my uncle's farm outside Yuma, CO. Wasn't a fan initially.

That changed when I started dating the future Mrs bo and got to shoot her customized Colt.

Been shooting almost my entire life- didn't get the pleasure of shooting an M-16 until BCT in 2006. Bought my first AR a couple months after getting out the Army. Been in love with the style ever since.

First time I shot an AR was in 1997. We were shooting my Hungarian sa-85 and a guy came over and let me shoot his colt car-15 and I let him shoot my sa-85, been hooked ever since.
A few months later on my 18th birthday when I got off work went stright to the local gun shop and purshased a nice new 16in Bushmaster.

First M16 was at Ft. Carson, 1986.

First AR15 was the one I built in 2005 (3Gun with a Marlin Camp 9 was rough).

1988. I bought an AR-15 (SP1 with triangle hand guards, etc), to familiarize myself with it before heading to USMC boot camp. Turns out I didn't need the prep course, but it was fun to have anyway.
