When doing a new thread the manage attachments has you go to the File Upload Manager (FUM) to get pictures and place in there. From the FUM to the thread.

Now I have several old irrelevant pictures in the FUM and want to purge them. I don't see a command how to do that.

Any suggestions?

From the "settings" link at the top right:

Select "attachments" from the left nav bar.

Check any attachments or pictures you want deleted. If it helps you find the ones you want to delete, there is an option to "show thumbnails" at the bottom left of the list.

Hit "delete selected" at the lower right corner.

There are some pics in the FUM that do not show in the attachments area discussed above.
Other attachments are in closed threads that do not provide the option to delete. I guess these disappear after 90 days or so?
Is it just possible to delete from the FUM?

Sorry to bring this up again, the File Upload Manager has some old pics that should be purged. They don't show using settings and attachments. How do i purge them from the FUM?

Let me explain with pics...pics help make everything easier.

This is a computer/browser instruction and may/may not be different for those of you using Tapatalk.

At the top-right of your COAR page in your browser window, click on Settings

Scroll/look down the menu list on the left side of the page under My Settings, then Miscellaneous you'll find Attachments - click on Attachments

From here on it should be intuitive.

I understand your example. When clicking attachments it shows only two attachments for an ad i just put in. The file upload manager has some ten additional much older pictures that are not needed. I don't see any command to delete these.

Just trying to grasp the issue at hand and see if I can come up with a solution... please ignore this post.

Starting to get a better understanding of what might be going on here.

First 2 images uploaded from my computer. "Insert Image", "From Computer" and it uses "Attach" tag within brackets to add.

Third image "Copy Image Location" from news website, then "Insert Image", "From URL" and it uses "IMG" tag within brackets to add.

Now to go into my Manage Attachments and to File Upload Manager to see the difference.

ETA: Nope, still lost. First two images show in both Manage Attachments & File Upload Manager. Third images doesn't show @ all.

When I compare my "Manage Attachments" and "File Upload Manager" results, I'm getting the opposite results than the OP - "Attachment Statistics" (top of "Manage Attachments" screen) shows I have 56 attachments but I only count 53 in "File Upload Manager".

COPY OF MY PREVIOUS POST - FOR TROUBLESHOOTING (SWAPPED IMAGES TO NEW ONES FOR THIS POST...the difference in why one image is a hotlink and the other shows the actual image is the hotlink is a .pdf file)

Okay, copied my previous post but used new images....now to see if I have a workaround for the OP.

Deleted one of the attachments via File Upload Manager.

**************

NOPE, no workaround.

Here's what I found: I can successfully delete the attachment from any post I've made, but vBulletin maintains the image on the system which can't be seen in "Manage Attachmnets", but still shows in "File Upload Manager".

When I attempt to use File Upload Manager (the key word here is "Upload"...I'll get to that in a moment) to delete the file I get the following message:
"The following errors occurred:
The asset is not currently being used by any content that you have access to."

So, this is why you don't show more than 2 attachments in "Manage Attachments", but many in "File Upload Manager". vBulletin created File Upload Manager as an UPLOAD tool (as the name implies), not an attachment manager. Why then, when an attachment is deleted does vBulletin keep a copy of the file and show it in File Upload Manager when it's been deleted from your attachments? That's a question you have to ask the vBulletin folks.

I can say this though, once the image is gone from your Manage Attachments, you no longer have that file visible anywhere on the viewing portion of the site - no one can see it (even mod's). There is no way that I've been able to identify for anyone to remove the image from the underlying system short of a server admin going in and scrubbing the database which is too labor intensive to even consider.

File Upload Manager does indicate that unused files will be removed in 1 hour if not used. Perhaps it will disappear from File Upload Manager eventually.

This still doesn't explain why I have more files in my Manage Attachments than I have in File Upload Manager. vBulletin mysteries.

The image I deleted from my post that remained in the File Upload Manager (FUM) did disappear from FUM sometime since I last saw it yesterday.

So, you can try these steps to see if you can get it completely gone out of FUM (NOTE: If you get the same message that I posted above, there isn't anything else to try):

(1) Go into FUM and move your mouse over the image you want to delete. This should cause either an icon with a "?" or both the question mark icon and another with an "X" to appear in the top/right corner.

(2) If there is an "X", try using that first to delete the image. If that fails, click on the question mark.

82222

(3) Another small window will open with a highlighted link to the post the image is attached to; click on that link.

82223

(4) Now the post should be shown with the attached image. Click on the "Edit Post", then "Go Advanced" buttons.
Within the post you will either see the image or an ATTACH or IMG tagged number(s). If you simply backspace and cut that text out of the message the image will see be attached after you save.

82224

You'll have to go back into the post, and Advanced Edit to delete the attachment.

(5) Once back in Advanced Edit, scroll down to Manage Attachments and click on it - FUM will open again (yes, it's possible to have File Upload Manager open more than once, but it is bad form as bad things could happen).

82225

(6) Now, at the bottom of FUM you should see the attachment and when you move your mouse over it you'll see the "?" and "X" icon at the top/right of the image. Click on the "X".

82227

You will be asked to confirm, click Yes. Now click DONE. Yes, the attachment will still show at the top of FUM but if my experience isany indication, it will disappear sometime within 24 hours.

Like I said earlier in this post, if you get the other error I posted in a previous post, or if anything else doesn't happen as per this instruction, I'm at a loss as to how to delete teh file.
