My friend "Jack" boogered up the threads on the bushing and the screws trying to put so different grips on the gun. The holes in the grips weren't quite right and instead of fitting them exactly they tried to twist them in and stripped out 2 sets of screws and maybe the bushing threads in one bushing too. I think the threads in the gun is alright though.

Any good place in town or online to get those bushings and screws maybe a matched set. And or a gunsmith to install them if its way more complicated than it seems? Any tips for fitting a new set of grips to better fit the first time?

Thanks.
ETA: Ok it was me that stripped it out. I'm an idiot.

Here's where I'd look..

I ordered some. I hope this works. Otherwise I'm going back to glock. I can see why they left off the removable grips from newer models of handguns.

I think I have a spare set for standard thickness grip panels from my Range Officer. I switched out to slim grips that requires shorter height bushings.

I think that is what I used. I have one bushing that is stripped out. What do you want for them? Are the smaller bushings better all around to have or is there times when you need the 2 separate sizes?

I used VZ Grips Thin style panels that required a shorter height bushing. If you used standard height bushings, the thin grips wouldn’t sit flush with the frame. I can search through my parts bin to see if I still have the factory height bushings, but I can’t guarantee I still have them.

Don’t forget to get the bushing tool to remove and replace the bushing. There are two tools, one for standard bushings and one for slim bushings. The tool makes it so much easier.
And also, standard bushings are for standard thickness grips and slim bushings are for slim grips.

Been a while since I owned a 1911 but I could have sworn grip screw bushings could be changed out with a flat blade screwdriver.

I just switched to VZ slims on one of my 1911’s last week. (Will be switching all now btw!) Went with their bushings and screws. Originals and new bushings were taken out and installed with a basic flat head screw driver.

True, sometimes that will work, but most times you end up boogerig them up or breaking them off.

If your attempts come to naught and you are willing to drive up to Windsor, I'd be glad to fit some replacement bushings for you. I've done it often enough for myself and others that I have a kit that makes the process relatively idiot-resistant. And you probably spun the bushings in the threads by over-torquing them in the first place. You only need something like 5 inch-pounds to tighten the grip screw. People over-torque them all the time, which is part of the reason I have this kit.

That is a nice kit. That is what a real 1911 guy should have.
Just received some (overpriced) standard and thin bushings and screws in the mail. There really is a difference between them. However, I was able to screw them into the frame no sweat. The old bushings must have failed before the threads in the gun. I have a houge or packmire grip. I forget which one it is but its rubber and nice to shoot with. But I made the mistake and order some new grips. The holes weren't lined up and I just forced the screws in and boogered the old bushings.
I put the old grips back on and everything slipped together just like it was supposed too. On second thought I really don't want punisher skulls on my 1911 in case I have to shoot someone. I don't want them to make an issue out of it. Asking if I think I am the punisher and was shooting his balls off was my plan.
But I do have some nice copper colored punisher grips with no where to go.
I was thinking about fitting them to my Browning Buckmark .22 but that is as far as I got. I don't know if I can get them to fit on there or not. But for now I got my 1911 back up and running and looking right.
Thanks for all your advice and help. I don't know what I would have done without your help. It would have taken years to fix it. Meanwhile the gun would have just sat in a drawer wounded and neglected.
