We just calendared a PRS Club match at CRC for March 31. We will be using the Silhouette range and a few of the East Range berms.

This is a one time test match to see if there is interest and to hopefully show the BOD that the completion of Practical Precision rifle shooting locations at CRC is desired by sufficient members.

I'll fill in some details later, but here is the general format. 7 stages, Precision Gun (60 rounds) 2 bags and a bi-pod shot from 40 to 550 yards, and a 9mm (Pistol or Carbine 50 rounds) shot from 10 to 50 yards or so. Set up at 8am, shooters meeting at 9:30, shoot by 10am…$30.

Several of the local PRS guys including Bison Tactical and Black Flag Precision have offered to lend a hand.

Interesting. What size/kind of targets? Will the shooting positions be on the current firing line?

Paper out to 100, steel from 100 to 550 for precision, 1MOA to 6MOA. For 9mm, larger. There will be 3 stages on the Silhouette range, and yes from the firing line, but we will have some props you have not seen. We will also use Berms 7, 10, the 100 and the 200 on the East range. It won't be a meatball match, but it will be fun. :)

We are aware that there is a Precision match in NE to benefit a child with cancer. As a result, half of the match fee will be sent to that match as a donation in support. If you want to add more, we will certainly accept it and send 100% of that along to the match.

Would be there, but that is over the kids spring break and we'll be out of town. Otherwise, you'd have +2 for it.

Don't really need one. A good AR15 with good 60 to 77 grain bullets should be able to hang in this match without a problem. The way the stages are designed, a gas gun might even have a slight advantage on a few stages. :) A 10" plate at 550 is the smallest MOA I'll have in the match.

Alright, maybe i'll try to pick up an lpvo/magnifier in the next couple weeks and see what I can do!

Why is this a "one time test match"? Who is the Match Director?

Also why pistol shooting in a PRS match. Do IPDA guys have to shoot rifle for score?

To see who is interested. I am the MD. If you are not interested, do not come.

What are the pistol rules for the match? Specifically, is a non-crossdraw chest holster allowed? Any rules regarding retention systems on a waist belt holster? Also, can the pistol be rucked during the rifle stages, or must the shooter wear it for the entire match? Thanks in advance. I have a few options and don't want to bring any kit that is against the rules...

As long as you do not break the 180 or sweep yourself or anyone else, I don't really care what you use aas long as it is at least 9x19. Will only need to have the pistol for the three stages it is used on. If you don't have a holster, that is okay too.

If folks don't have a pistol, bring $10 for a box of factory ammo and shoot one of the loaner PCCs.

Mark, is there a detailed stage description available, or are the rifle stages meant to be a surprise with shooters calculating firing solutions while there?

I am not publishing stage descriptions ahead of time. But you will get a stage sheet at the shooters meeting and there are no tricks as far as stage plans go. If you have dope for 100, 200, 330, 440 and 550 yards, you will be golden for the rifle parts.

Someone asked about bags. You can only use two, pick two, no switching out during the match. If you want to borrow someones because you don't have any, not a problem at all.

I'll try to remember to toss in a few loaners.

If you have glass for spotting, that will be helpful as well.

Thanks Mark, the distance is all I needed. I just wanted to pre-calculate my vertical adjustments to save time at the match.

Thanks all for coming out to the match. Sorry to Squad 2 for the heavy gusts of wind while you shot the long stages. Definitely hurt scores, but I hope the practice was beneficial.

Mark,

I had a great time, thanks for putting this on! The pistol caliber options were a great idea for sure.

Well Done, and thanks to Hunter as well for the set up.

For those of you interested in "platform" comparisons, 1st place was a 6.5G in a Gas gun and a 9mm Glock, the shooter of which left 30 of the possible 88 points in the match on the table. He took a conservative approach on the choice stages shooting the larger targets and not using points to go for the spinner. Choices I did not make and which bit me in the butt, but I figure if the MD puts them out there, he ought to at least try to go for them. :)

It is kind of hard to judge the actual difference since some of the better shooters shot the longer stages with winds in the 2-4 mph range and some of the better shooters shot those stages in the afternoon with 10-20 mph gusty winds. But those who talked to me afterwards said they felt the balance between gas/bolt and pistol/PCC was equitable overall. I really wanted to give folks the choice to shoot what they enjoyed the most and not worry about scores (even though we all care at least some).

Happy Easter ALL.
