Pretty cool considering Musk was predicting a 50% chance of failure.

They changed the flight time apparently. Some times it is weather, incursion into safety zone, spacecraft anomaly etc. Space business is very tricky. I just posted what I had read. Sorry for any misinformation.

Wind.

I was on a call shortly before launch with a client and some coworkers that are in SW Florida, Ft Myers and Tampa, and they were talking about watching the initial launch on TV or livestream, then stepping outside to see the rocket. One said Musk biggest concern was it blowing up on the launchpad and destroying a historic site.

Apparently several engines failed to re-light and it hit the water at 300MPH...

Not much more info divulged.

For those who'd like an endearing throwback movie to how all of this stuff started for/with the Sputnik generation, I recommend watching October Sky. It's the true story of Homer Hickam, the son of a coal miner who was inspired to look not just beyond his dying mining town of Coalwood, WV, but also beyond his state, country, and planet. And to do that, he had to look inside and see the potential of his own dreams, rather than the horrible impending reality of a life spent underground.

Great flashback. I was born in 70 and that was the first movie that I wanted to see that my parents said no to (I was only 11 when it came out). Had to wait a few years before I rented it from Blockbuster. Had already seen my first porn before I saw this but that's a different story...

It falls into the category of mid-70s to mid-80s movies that I thought were deep and awesome when I saw them, but when I rewatch them now I think "What was I on?" :)

Another example would be Zardoz (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070948/?ref_=nv_sr_1) - though I still think Rampling "in the day" was awesome!

I used to live 8 miles from the launch pad. First time a shuttle returned I thought a garbage truck had hit the house. Video below is a private view loaded to youtube.

By today's standards it probably falls short, but if you're old enough to remember the music and if you were ever a fan of the magazine, it's a great nostalgic trip. You can also see how far animation has come in the last couple decades.

I think I actually wore out a copy of the soundtrack in vinyl.

No, it is kind of like the Super Bowl, lots of parties outside. The locals just bitch about the traffic. It is also the largest employer, every success means more money is coming to the community.

The huge rocket a few weeks ago was basically 3 of these Falcon 9s strapped together. That was a test launch for funsies, today was actually putting a couple of satellites up into orbit. :)

One satellite went up today for earth imaging, plus 2 test satellites for Musk's dream of a satellite "constellation" that will provide world wide high speed internet.
