View Full Version : Ever have one of those days...

...where everything just goes right?
I started trying to focus on the positive after hearing the Florida news. This is the result of how my day went after checking my attitude and realizing (what I already know, of course) some people are having a far worse day and that maybe I should check my attitude:
*Rainy day in the valley. Great! At least it isn't snowing.
*Get an out-of-gas call up in the mountains where it is snowing. Heavily. But, hey. I have a job so there's that.
*Chain up to get to the house, fill the tank, all is good. Homeowner is so happy that I got there quickly he gave me two HUGE, wild caught, Alaskan King salmon filets. About 3 lbs. Freakin' awesome!
*Finish the day early and go home on time.
*Get an email from the youngest. He's in Korea. He's a huge hockey fan and scored tickets to the USA v Canada women's game. Very happy he gets to experience that. Plus I Googled his crush...Hilary Knight. Yowsa!
*Mrs BG says she was talking to a co-worker about cleaning up our creek bed and how bad the brush and debris is down there. Co-worker suggests renting a grapple bucket for the tractor. She asks me about grapple buckets so we watch a few YouTube videos. She tells me we should just buy one with the extra cash she's getting from a part-time job she's doing. Wife and I spend Valentine's Day evening over a nice dinner of leftovers talking about tractor implements. Romance is alive even after almost 29 years.
*Boss calls after hours. That is NEVER good. Except today. Seems the company "re-evaluated" the pay level of a few employees based on performance. I was one of the few. I got a 15% pay raise effective back to the 11th.
*I have several choices of good bourbon in the cabinet to choose from.
*And finally, not even Bert's smart-ass comment (yeah, OK...I chuckled, but damned if I'm gonna tell him) about my Chevy in the DIY thread can get to me after the day I had.
So, yeah.... My day went much better than some and I'm thankful.
I have been very thankful over the past couple of years. It is almost surreal. I'm normally used to life kicking me in the teeth on a regular basis. Maybe this issue I'm having with buying a house is a sign that I shouldn't get "too comfortable".
Sounds like an excellent day. [Beer]
There is a lot of power in positive thinking. I wish there were a lot more of it. It's not nearly as contagious as negative thinking. Glad you had a good day.
I love it when a plan comes together
Life has taught me It could ALWAYS be worse. Keep your head up and keep on keepin' on. We have much to be thankful for.

Rotten bastage, I guess I'm grudgingly glad you had a good turn around day. But only because I know the love shared over dinner and tractors.[emoji106]

Glad you had a great day! I could certainly afford to be more positive on a day to day basis.

I wouldn’t wish cancer on my worst enemy, but the one gift it gave me that I wish I could share with everyone, is that perspective. It would be awesome in the thick of sickness to come in to work and hear people squabble about the most minuscule BS. You could think to yourself in an almost condescending way, “That’s so cute how you think those are problems.”
The further I get, the more I lose that perspective, but I do try to reframe the mindset back to that.

I think that perspective is why I love the song, "Live Like You Were Dying". So many of the things we worry about day to day or week to week are just petty in the big scheme of things.

Indeed.
The mantra I had was “one fun thing.” Every week, no matter how I felt, my wife and I made a point to do one fun thing. We went to museums and shows and restaurants and just generally did the stuff I never “had time for.” Sometimes, I was sick enough it wasn’t much. I wish I could say we’ve maintained that ever since. Those were some great memories of a less than great time.

I call those 1st world problems. Most of us can easily find clean water to drink, food to eat, and a sheltered place to sleep at night. A trip to Mexico City back in the '80s really reset my understanding of how some people scrape by one day to the next with nothing more than a cardboard box for shelter.
Does anyone else from my generation have Monica stuck in their head now?

I started to laugh and then remembered I drive a Ford. :(

It's "you're". And I'll be driving my wife's Chevy, potpourri and all, after I drop my truck off at the dealership tomorrow. So there.

Thanks!
Just reading that made the day brighter.
I fell while hiking alone in the forest recently and shattered a knee cap, broke some ribs, a foot, hit my head pretty good, a few other injuries. Tried to walk out, no go. I had a dying cell and no service. I managed to get a call out despite my location and as I waited for rescue and tried to control bleeding with a belt, the only thing on my mind was my wife. Thinking that I might never see her again, that my life's plans might get snatched in an evening with no warning. Gave me an immense sense of perspective as I wondered why so many other things had power over me daily, yet could not seem less important at the moment. Luckily I have carried that mentality with me a few months later as I relearn to walk and run. For me being alive is a blessing. Sorry for the rant, but yes, most people are so blessed they can't even see their blessing.

SPOT or similar device = the necessary. Glad you were able to get help!

Recently read an article about SPOT and it said they were real "spotty" on reliability. This device was recommended for someone who probably spends a lot of outdoor time in remote areas.

I'm really making an effort to focus more on positive stuff than on petty things that serve only to get in the way of, and distract me from, an otherwise blessed life.
Sure, I've had bad times. But overall, life's been pretty good to me. I really need to remember that.

I'm with you on that. If I can't control it I just deal with it and move on. Life is getting shorter now and I there's no reason to add more stress than is necessary.[Beer]

I have a SPOT messenger. It used to be able to send a message saying I'm OK. After a while that function quit. A company rep assured me the 911 function still worked, but wouldn't let me test it. I wouldn't trust it with my life. It is junk. More corporate scammery...

Plus you have to pay a monthly fee for the SPOT don't you ?

Nice. Was not aware of this one. I had one of the original SPOT devices. Was kinda big for my preferences. Given that a PLB is not a daily use item, just carry, I like the smaller size of the ACR.
Will look into it.

When I called 911, even though I was in emergency power mode and had 1 bar of 1x, 911 was still able to get an approxinate GPS ping on me. I could not tell then where I was, I was miles from a road. We use spot at work,I think it's just a more reliable version of the same or similar system though it works where cells dont.
