Idiot.

I heard an officer today tell me, "I don't really like guns" and my response was, well I love America so I do love guns.

If all the mentally unstable people turned in their guns, the number of school shootings would drop significantly. His choice, but not someone I would ever follow.

A guy with only one wrench obviously has no use for that particular tool. Not much of an example bring made here.

So the example is to surrender your rights through a meaningless gesture that won't prevent a single shooting?

No thanks. I'm keeping mine.

He should have given his rifle to a person in need of one

"No one without a law enforcement badge needs this rifle."

LOL. What cop would carry an Ar57?

And besides, this is like chopping off your own dick because some dude elsewhere raped a woman. Makes no sense.

Aren't you glad he's a cop?

The thread title is misleading. The fud that turned in his rifle isn't a cop. He turned it in because he isn't a cop and thinks only cops should own these types of things.

I'd bet a dollar he still has some rifles or shotguns. You know, for hunting and such.

What a fud.

CS1983

Based on the article, he isn't a cop. He turned in a rifle to Broward County Sheriff Office. Who, frankly, were probably amused more than happy.

he didnt surrender his rights. just a rifle.

If he truly wanted to make a commitment to his cause, he should have asked for a voluntary court ajudication to prevent him from ever purchasing another firearm again and having a permanent block put on his NICS file. Now THAT would be surrendering your gun rights.

His money, his gun. If that's what makes him feel better then who am I to argue. My inner 12 year old thought his name was appropriate, though.

His middle name should be "doverandtakea".

Either he's a virtue signaling cunt ... or he realized how expensive and at the same time useless 5.7x28 actually is.

Apparently . . . it's being offset.

To completely offset this cuck's gesture I'm going to give away an SOLGW blaster.

To enter just like and tag a friend who loves freedom.
I'll pick a winner when I sober up tomorrow.

He's trying to have his cake & eat it too. Turning in 1 of his firearms was nothing more than a symbolic gesture. Turning in all of them would have been a genuine (yet just as stupid) gesture. You either buy into the ludicrous "Guns are bad Mmmm'kay" bologna or you don't. This concept that because a firearm looks a certain way makes it "more dangerous" is just a narrative of those seeking to incrementally remove ALL firearms from civilian/citizen possession. Buying into that notion shows one doesn't truly understand either the firearm nor the end goal of the left.

He turned it in because the ammo is hard to find and expensive.....

That's my guess.

He can't find anyone interested in buying the gun, so he traded it in for social justice points.

Irving

He said people with badges should have that gun. Sounds like he's trying to get law enforcement to adopt the caliber so ammo is more common. Then he'll break out his other rifles in that caliber.

Stuff like this is more worrying to me. Top GOP Donor Demands Action on Assault Weapons

Being a Republican used to mean something based on values, but they've been sliding left simply to maintain power. As we've seen with the current Congress, the GOP held majorities are dysfunctional and ineffective. Donors like that are why both establishment parties have fallen out of favor with so many voters. It won't surprise me if we see more movement toward new political parties in the not-too-distant future.

5.7x28. Pistol caliber. Damaging ballistics but very niche and basically useless to anyone without deep pockets to feed it.

The round was intended to be armor piercing, but the AP ammo is not allowed in the hands of mere civilians. Without that ammo, it's a (VERY expensive) meh round. The PS90 is chambered in 5.7x28... more compact than an AR-57

It’s my understanding the polymer tipped rounds did quite a lot of damage in Ft Hood shooting. Not that varmint rounds for .223 wouldn’t have.

The ballistics of 5.7x28 are slightly better than 22 magnum... 400 lb-ft of muzzle energy. (23gr @ 2800fps)
5.56 has more than 3x the energy... hollow points in a 50gr @3300+ fps would certainly be much more devastating

The jackwagon terrorist of Ft. Hood had a 5.7 pistol... 5.7x28 is high velocity for a pistol round, but 9mm +p has more energy

CS1983
02-18-2018, 15:57
Is it just the fact that the tipped rounds come apart that made Hood such a showcase for the round?

68Charger
02-18-2018, 16:21
Yes, but liberty ammo would have similar results in 9mm due to lighter round & higher velocity

But they're nowhere near rifle round energy

7-Year-Olds Are Selling AR-15 Raffle Tickets for Their Baseball Team (https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/7-year-olds-are-selling-ar-15-raffle-tickets-for-their-baseball-team/ar-BBJhQxg)

Elementary school students are still selling raffle tickets for a AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, just days after the same weapon was used to kill 17 people at a Florida high school. The boys, ages 7 to 9, were raising money for their baseball team in Missouri, according to a new St. Louis Post-Dispatch report.

Team coach Levi Patterson told the outlet the raffle was designed before Wednesday’s mass shooting. A father of one of the kids co-founded a firearm company, and provided the weapon for the team’s use. Patterson said he wasn’t trying to make a political statement by offering the AR-15. He was just offering what had been provided..

At first, he thought about getting a new item for the raffle, but choose to “turn it into a positive thing” after receiving “hate” online.

“One of the people from the hate group turned in [a Facebook post about the raffle] for I don’t know what,” Patterson said. This post depicted a weapon next to a school logo, and Facebook took it down after criticism, Patterson said. He clarified after initial publication of that article that he didn’t mean to say the critics were part of a “hate group.” They were just people were different opinions.

“I applaud them for standing up for what they believe in,” he said. “I just think they have feelings to this specific type of gun different than people around here do.” In a reported Facebook message on Wednesday, Patterson insisted that they would not force any of the boys to sell raffle tickets if the kids “are uncomfortable doing so.” He said all his players are selling.

Nikolas Cruz, 19, was arrested for the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. He killed 17 people using an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle, according to the arrest report from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.

This article is from a few years ago but it's happening again this year, as usual, at the Potlatch Elementary School. Guns and a sausage feed! 'Murica!

Gun show at school a Potlatch tradition
School district and city officials say Idaho community supports yearly event in conjunction with sausage feed

By MARY STONE of the Tribune Mar 15, 2014

College presidents and police chiefs voiced opposition in recent weeks to allowing guns on college campuses, but Potlatch residents have long welcomed firearms at their elementary school one day each year.

The annual Potlatch Gun Show will take place Sunday in the Potlatch Elementary School gymnasium, coinciding with the Knights of Columbus all-you-can-eat sausage breakfast down the hall in the school cafeteria.

Unless he thought that he was going to go batshit crazy and shoot at people, turning in his oddball AR is meaningless. Maybe he couldn’t sell it and wants a tax deduction.
