View Full Version : Wifes friends.
My wife keeps trying to make us hang out with other couples and it's getting old.
First couple was literally hippies. Super anti gun. The husband actually had a 1919 45 revolver that belonged to his grandpa. His wife made him put it in storage. LoL. Then he tells me it was stolen from the storage unit. Sorry but your wife sold it if you ask me. I feel kinda bla towards these people. Nothing in common at all. I can tell the wife hates me. Husband wants to have fun but he's not allowed.
Next couple she says I'll like them. Husband loves to shoot has his ccw. Holy shit never met someone so confident in their gun handling in my life. I mean I'm sitting at a table with John Fuckin Wick here. This guy carries a blow out kit to the grocery store.
During some gun talk I mention I have a 45 I need to have the sights moved and I don't have the pusher tool. It shoots about 2 inches left at 10 yards. He insisted that it was just me. He would shoot it and let me know....lol.
Fast forward a couple weeks. I put 8 shots into a ragged hole just left of the bull. With my reloads and home cast powder coated bullets. Your turn bud. He refused to shoot it. LoL. Then after I shot up all my ammo he wants to shoot a bulls eye game against me. 45 ammo gone. 357 ammo gone. I've got a Glock 22 trade in (thanks member here) and some freedom munitions 180 grain that came with the gun. I don't even know where my point of impact is going to be. Fuck me running. Dropped one bull the whole game. Guy says you won so quiet I had to ask what he said so I could hear it again. Turns out guy has been shooting for two years. LoL. I don't think he's ever shot outside of one local indoor range. John Fuckin Wick people.
The latest couple the guy seems like a cool normal guy. Guy is a newer coyote hunter like me. Has a cabin in Wyoming....awesome. Met the guy briefly one time. Now she tells me that couple is having a rocky time in their marriage. Damn that sucks what's the problem. Oh he held the wife down and raped her!! I'm not going in the woods with a rapist. I ain't going down on broke back mountian!
Do other people's wives make them do this? I have two young boys and I'm self employed. I feel like there is more than enough to keep me busy.
I managed to alienate most of my wife's liberal friends several years ago. It's not really a problem now.
Are these people you know in the first place? Are you guys meeting them on some kind of couples tinder?
I do not have this problem. My wife likes less people than I do, and is much less tolerant of BS, left-leaning political views, etc.
I'm way more social than my wife and she's pretty social. We tend to dislike the same types of people however so that's nice.

Wife has a lot more friends than I do (most of my friends are from the military and are scattered all over the country anyway.)
But what I do have is a motorcycle. So I can ride and she can hang out with her friends. Win-Win for both of us.
One thing that astonishes me is how many of the wife's friends seem to have husbands/boyfriends that are unemployed leeches. Just sit on the couch and do very little if anything while the wife/girlfriend goes to work every day (at least, this is what I'm hearing from my wife.)
I just had no idea there were so many unemployed/underemployed 40- or 50-something year old guys sitting around the house while their spouse or girlfriend worked. It's weird. I think I'd be embarrassed if my wife had to work to support us while I didn't.

Right now is my down time, and my wife lets me know every single day how much she doesn't appreciate going to work every day while I don't. Hopefully, theirs do as well.
CapLock, if you don't like your wife looking for friendship, just invite her here to post right along side you!

My wife is as selectively social as I am, so it hasn't been an issue.

I never married. Just be thankful that she doesn't insist you take medication or go to counselling. I wish you the best of luck in your marriage.

I make Grumpy Cat look like f'ing Dale Carnegie.
My wife understands that her friends are her friends and not necessarily my friends. I'll be polite if I have to be around them but I'm damn sure not discussing politics, religion, or personal beliefs and if any of them try to steer the conversation that way I politely excuse myself from their presence.
I honestly don't know where they stand on most subjects but they all seem to think I'm a pretty awesome guy so when my wife slips up and lets them know that I'm a firearms enthusiast maybe it will just help to shed light on the fact that people who like guns aren't some sort of goofball psychopaths.
She gets all the gun chat she can stand from me.
Maybe that's the driving force.
She does artsy crafty hobbies and meets other girls into the same. I think they must feel like we (husbands) should do likewise.
When I'm at the range and set up next to an old cromugden at the far end and say hi. All you get in return is a errhhh. That's all I need. LoL.

Sounds much like my marriage.
She's heavily involved in the fashion/modeling world, so those people are almost all raging library's, and it's often hard to tell if gay/trans/ or just a f-ing freak.
I'm polite, but usually standing by myself when at her shows...
Suggest a couples swap with the Hippie couple. the guys wife hates you for a reason if you know what I mean..
My wife definitely plans events with other couples. It usually goes really well. Most of the time, it involves drinking with similar couples. Not hard to have a good time drinking beer with cool people.
Sounds like a combination of her having weird friends and you being a cynical person lol.

My wife is just like me and would rather stay home watching Clint Eastwood movies or working on guns. We bought a dog and find it much more enjoyable than people.

We don't really know anyone here, I get along with everyone at work but we don't go hanging out together. My wife's friends are all in different states as are mine, she gets daily phone calls from them, I stay in touch through Facebook. Other than that, you all are my friends and just about all the social interaction I can stand.
But, if we go out and we meet someone at the bar, then things usually go well; the guys and their wives are usually starring at my wife's breasts so I am mostly out of the conversation anyway.

My wife has done this before...
Now that I think of it, I wonder if I'm the guy the other wive's husbands complain about....
oh well, helps I don't care what they think of me. [gohome]
I hang around with all sort (dirt poor to multimillions, hs drop out to phd, minimum wage earners to 7 figures, all race, all political views, and different religions).
However, if they start any argument on shit that I don't like, they are done. How do I manage all that?
I keep the circle of friends all sperate. Church people with church people.
Investor friends with investor friends.
My kids friends parents with other parents.
Etc.
If wife or husband acts like dictator, they are out.

lol my wife is currently breast feeding, that happens a lot lately over here too
How about you start picking the couples? Seek a few members here to do dinner with them and their wives.
Of the two of us, my spouse is a bit more of a social butterfly than I am. His friends are all good; the ones that have displeased me are simply not invited back. My friends are mostly work friends; the couple that have extended beyond that barrier are so much like us that we get along like peas in a pod.
I've seen situations suh as the OP has relayed; that's always a tough one. My suggestion is that you have a bit more communication, and set up some signal between you two so she understands that you are not happy with the arrangement. Invent some work emergency that you can use to escape. IMHO, a spouse's friends should never take precedence over the partnership (that works both ways).

Do you talk to them about making homemade wire EDM’s? As for me my wife is at least as conservative as I am every time she finds out that a friend is liberal she just completely cut them off and no longer is friends with them anymore in fact we found out her youngest daughter’s godparents have some liberal leanings so we replaced them as well it was weird because we have known them for many years and it finally now just crept up. As for me I might only have one or two friends that are not on this board so I also assume that I am the husband the other guys complain about too hahaha
By the way My fifth child is on the way so I guess I don’t have time for friends ha ha Ha

Gary (68charger) is a wealth of information I wouldn’t know the first thing to do to make a homemade wire EDM but him and I had that conversation before hahaha I think it might’ve involved parts from a microwave
I am a grown ass man! What do I need friends for? [Flower]
If I want to chat with people, I come here. That lasts for an hour or less until something pisses me off and then I go watch YouTube videos on how to replace or build something.
I get all the social interaction/face to face with people that I could ever want and then some at work. I don't really need any more social time.
Sometimes when we find ourselves out in a social setting I can be quite charming, right up till I tell the one story that upsets someone who can't understand what I found amusing about some horrific thing or another. Oh well, you can't make everyone happy. Don't like my stories, come up with your own. Not my job to entertain you. Don't want to hear my opinion, then don't share yours because I certainly wasn't asking for it. I'm not offended by your world view and it is your tough luck if you are offended by mine. Life goes on with you in my life or without. There are a few billion people on this planet and I can count close friends on my fingers. That ratio seems about right to me.
My wife loves me. She doesn't need me to like her friends and certainly understands when her friends don't like me.

So your choice is the guy that rapes or the guy that's a hippie. I know what I would choose...
But seriously, we all go through it. My problem is my wife's friends that we hung out with and as I get older can't stand. There have been a least three couples, we go to dinner, have a good time, just chatting, then someone has too much to drink and begins to tell me what they think of all the police murdering people, etc.
I tell my wife I deal with idiots all day, I'm not gonna do it for free.

The OP sounds pretty familiar. My wife and I were just talking about how finding a couple where we both like both people is about as rare as winning the lottery. When our kids were younger, it was even more rare. The best we found were families where my wife and I liked both parents and one of our two kids liked one of their two or more kids. (We still have a two couples as friends from that time.) Now we are in a different phase since our kids are older and can be left at home (or have their own places to go). But finding new couples to hang out with is still tough since my wife works from home and there are only three other people at my work.

I get that in the off season, too. Then when I'm deployed, I get "I didn't sign up to be a single mother!"
To which I reply "Keep it up, and you'll go from part time to full."
My wife is a better person then I am. I don't like any of her friends. She actually likes Jim, so that's two strikes against her judgment.
