View Full Version : What are your Grail Guns?
Over the years, I've acquired all the guns I need, and several I just want. I started with my dad giving me hunting firearms growing up, then picked up pistols, rifles, and shotguns for self defense, then guns for competition, and now guns that I just always wanted. I have not gotten into collecting for investment purposes - they are all shooters that I do not plan to flip.
Some of my grail guns I've picked up are:
Barrett M99
Browning Hi-Power
WWII 1911
Nazi Luger
Winchster 73, 92, 94
S&W 19, 66, 625
Colt SAA, 1917
Benelli M3
Some I'd like to have:
Sharps
Steyr Scout
Colt Python
BAR
Something belt-fed
Curious what others consider to be their "grail guns."
I'd just like to have an L2A1 some day..

I'm sure I could come up with more but that'll do for now :)

I was about 7 or 8 the first time I saw a Tippman 1919 scaled down to 22lr at a gun show. It apparently took me weeks to stop talking about it, still one of the top “grail” guns on my list.

I've done a pretty good job over the years of acquiring most of the guns I've wanted. Of what's left, it's mostly obscure or weirdly configured variants of mass produced firearms. So excluding NFA stuff, these are the things I occasionally search the used gun cases hoping to come across:
HK P9S Sport Group III in 9mm with weighted barrel and both slides.
S&W 610 non-fluted.
Desert Eagle 50 with non-integrated muzzle comp in hard chrome.
Sig X6 PPC
Sig 226 Sport SL with weight
HK SR9 TC
M1 Garand 30-06
LIKE!
I am still looking for a M1903 (not A3, already done) but am very picky. Want a Springfield, original barrel, original-ish stock, and high number (mostly so I can sell it as a shooter if I need to) ME <= 2.
Would like to get a 1898 Krag in decent wall hanger condition (would never shoot it).
Would love to get a German P226X5 but never had the $$$ to justify it.
Still need a Colt M1911A1.
Might want another M1 Carbine because they are so damn fun!

Thanks JohnnyEgo! Nice suppressor, I used to drive by their factory everyday.
My only "grail" gun I'd love to have (but probably won't ever be able to afford) is something along the lines of a PDW that is silenced and full auto like -

My dream gun would be an EMP pistol for when I'm in the truck. No need to get pissed off in traffic anymore. Simply fire an EMP round at said jackass's vehicle. Vehicle is permanently disabled. sit on side of road now and buzz off. I know LOTS of subaru owning jackwagons that would be on the side of the road. I'd have so much fun with that. No need to shoot the driver, just place a round in the trunk or tailgate.
Reality
Remington 700 w/ a big reach and out touch someone from long range scope
Pair of full auto (Class 3) UZI's
Full Auto M-4

This list is great.
I'm getting as close to the Honey Badger as I can on a budget. Certainly not full-auto. But it's close otherwise. Just ordered the rail. Once it's installed, I'll have photos.

Mine is kind of obscure. I saw a few at some of the gun shows I went to back in the early 80's.
Lahti L-35 or Husqvarna M-40 9mm pistol. A gorgeous gun (and HEAVY! I got to handle a few and they feel like a solid chunk of steel!)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lahti_L-35
Gorgeous lines, very reminiscent of the Parabellum/Luger but different enough to be noticeable.

Every now and then I'll do a GB search. When you can find them they seem to run in the $1300 - $2000 range. Back in the 80's they went for around $500 - $600.

It's taken over the market and AAC stopped making rifles altogether, but they are different. Mine will look more like the Honey Badger and cost way less than either the Honey Badger or the MCX.
Kinda makes me wish I never traded my MCX all of a sudden.

It's hard to come up with specific guns that I would put on the level of "grail"... I have a small list of specific models that I have wanted all along, and I own them.
Everything else comes down to practical needs as far as firearms go.
There are a few calibers that still exist on the "I want one because" list.
.375 Cheytac
.408 Cheytac (Yes, I know the .375 is the same but better ballistically. Doesn't change the fact that I want one...)
Recently crossed the 6.5 Creedmoor off the list of wanted calibers.
ETA: I guess the only specific model I still want enough to have a "grail list" would be a Barrett M107A1.

Yep. That's what I showed in my thread: https://www.ar-15.co/threads/167253-Hanguard-over-suppressor
A Smith and Wesson Model 1926 .44 Special in blue, 4” barrel.
WWII correct M1 Garand
Those two would make me very happy.
Back in the day when it was new, cost was little over $100 dollars. A nice 20ga bolt action, smooth bore shotgun with 2 spare mags. I think it was a New Haven, folks bought it for me to hunt with at a local gas station. And for the next 30 years shot the crap out of it...to the point it could not be repaired....it was just all wore out.
I kept it on my folks farm and it was one of the go to shotguns when we shot clay pigeons.

Then you’d need to get a nice Colt SAA to wear on the other side like The General did[LOL]. And just because I’m a Smith geek technically you need a Registered Magnum as Smith didn’t assign model numbers until 1957. Just kidding, no offense, yeah I need to get a life.
I would like a Holland & Holland double rifle chambered in 416 Rigby or 470 Capstick.
Precision rifle in 6XC
Thompson
A .50 rifle
But at this point I'd just be happy to be able to get to the range once a week.
