Anyone have any recommendations on optics they have on their AR that you are satisfied with?
Completing two at the moment and was considering buying the same optics on two other AR’s I own. I like the Vortex StrikeFireII I have with the magnifier added.

Its spendy, but I love my ACOG.

I started with red dots with no magnification...but have come around to liking/preferring either a lower fixed magnification 3x-5x or a lower variable like a 1x-4x or 1x-6x

I love my MTAC on 11.5 SBR. Here are some helpful threads:

My advice is to go with a 1x4 or 1x5 illuminated optic.
I currently have a trijicon 1x4 and love it. I can run it as a red dot or a 4X scope.

ACOGs are great. I really like mine.

Depends on use. Red dots are way faster and easier for up close to 300 on 12" or bigger targets. They are mindless, superimpose and pull the trigger, fast. They are optimal for close range acquisition. Fixed magnified optics can be small lighter and clean, but inside roughly 50 yds, the field of view turns them into giggling guess-work and you really need a secondary sighting system. The 1-4 or 1-6 etc scopes (Recce scopes) give the red dot capability (kind of) and magnification. The biggest issue is you have to think of distance and where to aim with a recce scope. If you point click with a 50/200 zero at 10 feet, you are going to hit way low. You'll still hit, but waaaay low. Magnification and a drop reticle makes shooting 200+ way easier especially on smaller targets.
I don't recommend magnifiers on red dots. They're heavy over in comparison to a recce scope and you are also magnifiying the dot size. They get pretty imprecise.

I've ran a lot of different options with work and for play but I've found to prefer the magnification. Depends on the purpose and distance being used but my regular daily AR now has a 1-6x on it and I absolutely love it. I don't notice the "tube effect" for close range shooting if you use both eyes but the magnification allows me to identify targets clearer at longer distances and the increased accuracy. For my SBR I've got the Trijicon MRO on it that I love for the price, quality, and huge field of view.

As many have said, it all depends on purpose of the rifle. All of my AR's are for short distances. On my SBR, I run a Trijicon MRO in a QR mount so I can move it from rifle to rifle. . On my 16" rifle I have a Vortex Strikefire II. I have a Vortex 3x Magnifier on a swing-out QR mount that sits in my rifle bag, so if I want the option, I have it for either platform.
If I could afford it, I'd buy an ACOG for my 16" rifle.
I've considered trying a Prism red dot 3x or 4x, but just chose to spend money on other things.
Way back when I had an EoTech 512 on my original Bushmaster (back when it was great - not a Remington AR), and to this day, I think that is probably still my favorite red dot sight for the AR platform. I will probably own one again some day.

Thanks for the discussion about advice on optics. Wearing glasses that are progressive is a pain when using my optics and one reason I had originally mentioned a magnifier. In my particular case, the magnifier has been helpful, until I look-up without my glasses. I have jotted down everyone’s suggestions and look at each. Thanks again for the discussion.

What do people think about the Sig Romeo 5 for a defensive/serious use rifle optic? I’ve seen some impressive torture tests.

I've been using a 1-6 for a few years now and LOVE it. Put it on my 6.5 Grendel and killed my antelope at 278 yards and a mule deer at 35 yards. It's back on my 556, and I don't have any plans of replacing it. I'm running the primary arms. It may be a little slower than a red dot up close, but I don't have any problems hitting 10" steel at 500 yards on 6x.

I saw a sweet ACOG for sale on the forum...

I don't think I'll every buy another scope without an illuminated reticle. I really like the Leupold Mark AR 1.5-4x IR. It enables accurate shooting at targets in low light or in the dark with a bright gun light. Think raccoon at 100 yards in the dark with a 500 lumen light. It's like a poor man's infrared or thermal scope.
