Does anyone think the upcoming 25% tariff on imported steel and the 10% tariff on imported aluminum will have a negative effect on firearms or ammo?

I doubt it. I would think this has much more of an impact on anyone making cars and airplanes, canning operations, or something like appliances.

It might make the market more competitive for other metals and possibly raise prices but generally, no.

Oh, add to my industries that would be more impacted than firearms mfrs., manufacturers of steel pipe and ironwork and ship builders.

I'm not certain this is a good move. And I'm certain it's going to help. Do tariffs ever work?

It will increase incentive for American miners. And refiners, smelters etc.

Gives distributors cover to raise prices.

Al and Steel price going up? Most likely. (just look at the CME)
Would price of firearm and ammo price go up? In long run, if there is no crazy panic purchase, we might be okay.

IF there's a serious panic buying spree, they'll be turning gold & silver in to brass & lead.

Tariffs... The LBJ-era "Chicken Tax" is why we don't have some of the cool trucks you see from places outside the US. A 25% tax was placed on pickups and some other food items in response to some European countries placing a tariff on US chicken back in the 60s. As a result, most makers of pickups chose to ignore the US market. On the other hand, it caused Toyota and Nissan to build factories in the US and move their pickup truck production over here. So maybe there was some good that came of it.

Companies still import certain vehicles in various configurations, later modified in the US, to avoid this tax. If the US had signed on to the TPP it would've ended that 25% tariff. Of course, the Detroit Big 3 didn't like that.

There are always unintended consequences to things like this. Hard to say how it'll ultimately unfold.

Pretty sure they already build those trucks here in the states. That’s how they got around those high import tariffs on trucks.

Also, you can likely expect to pay more for your utilities since the cost of pipe is going to go up and any new pipeline projects will pass those costs to their customers.

No. The chicken tax on trucks predates Import truck production here. Remember the easy to remove jump seats in Subaru Brats. To give an example of what Bailey mentioned, the little Ford Transit Connects from Turkey gets brought in with seats in the back and get converted to utility configuration in the states.

...or the Toyota Hilux available all over the world...except here. (It may not be a victim of the 'chicken tax', but I remember the TPP was supposed to make it available)
