The Idaho legislature is well on the way to passing a very strong "stand your ground" law. It codifies long-standing legal precedent in the state.
The new law assumes people act reasonably when defending their homes and assumes anyone unlawfully entering does so with the intent to commit a felony. It also extends the protections to businesses and vehicles. The new law defines a dwelling to include temp structures such as tents as well and puts the burden on the prosecution to prove a person defending home or property under the law acted unreasonably.
The state sheriff's association fully supports the law. I'm looking forward to seeing it pass.

Good to know that you can use lethal force in the protection of your mistress in Idaho. [Coffee]

Or your "master and servants". I have no idea where that came from. Some obscure legal precedent I'm sure.

I wonder what law enforcement that were involved with Ruby Ridge think of this law.

Considering Idaho passed laws years ago stating state law preempts federal on gun issues my guess is they don't give a rat's are what the feds think or how they feel. Feds aren't real popular here...with anyone.

If I didn't have to drive back to Wichita once or twice a year, I'd really consider relocating to ID. We actually looked at Boise before choosing Colorado Springs. But at this point I really like the idea of Coeur d'Alene.

Idaho seems to be on the right track. With good hunting, fishing, and conservative views, I'm looking between Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho to relocate to.
Hopefully y'all can keep Idaho free. When I was up there 3 years ago it seemed just like Colorado.

^^ How, exactly, was Idaho just like Colorado? Just curious.

Maybe Boise, the rest not even close. Or you mistook dogshit you stepped in for human feces?
How bad/liberal are the areas just outside Boise....Star, Eagle, Merridian etc? Making a trip next month in those areas to possibly relocate.

I'd narrow down what your focus truly is and see how each state compares. A decision matrix is helpful for this, especially if certain things are a must or simply a want. For example, you might care most about politics, then hunting, then fishing. So your decision matrix would allot points to each category per each state based on research. If a state violates a "must" category, it's out.
You might also do a matrix per category and then apply that to a larger general matrix.
Depending on things, you might be very surprised at where an unemotional decision process leads.

Since the thread is way off track anyway, I agree with Cav. It's what we did. Cost of living, job availability, politics, etc...that's How we decided.
Having said that, "liberal" in ID is different than CO. Boise is not the most liberal place in the state...that's probably just up the road here in Moscow. But to give you some perspective here are the registeted voter stats:
R = 375,000
D = 75,000
L = 300,000+
Most of the L voters go republican. Many D seats don't even get a candidate in some areas of the state because it's such a waste of time and effort.
As for guns: constitutional carry, no BGC if you have a permit, no BGC for private sales, no restrictions on guns or mags, etc...
With this new law it's gonna be one of the most gun friendly states in the country...even better than before.
