View Full Version : Lets Talk belts
I’m in the market for a new belt. I was wearing a Daltach leather belt, however the dog got to it and it’s a bit thick with the buckle and overlap when I carry appendix style.
I was looking at the trayvex cinch, people seem to say for IWB it’s good but to me it looks think. I’m not wanting to spend more than $30.

If you do buy anything from them use the link for 10% off and I get $10 off so I can try the belt haha

If I were in the market for a new belt (I kind of am, but $), I would go with Hbartactical. I've never owned a belt from him, but several holsters later, and I'm confident I'd be pleased with anything he makes.

Buy quality leather. It's an investment.

Best belt I’ve ever worn.
It makes it so easy to EDC.
I have the black nylon, but I’m sure they are all great.

For leather belts we buy saddle cinch from Tandy and modify to fit. Redneck family tradition. They make very durable, long lasting belts.
If you're unarmed, you are a victim
I wore leather forever. But tried a 511 reversible belt 3 years ago. Until they change or upgrade it this is all I will ever want or need. Inexpensive, easy to find, doesn't set off metal detectors, flip it over to go from tan to black, doesn't loosen through the day, not so thick its uncomfortable but thick enough to carry with.
Only caveat I'd make is that I don't carry daily. So 2 cents and all that.

My choice as well since like 2007 I think. Wear it daily.
I’m not wanting leather I have plenty, plus they print to much. I’m looking for more of a rigid nylon. I don’t mind paying for a good belt

Try the Daltech SuperBio (Indestructi-belt) belt. Amazing belt that is comfortable yet strong. Some YouTube torture tests using it that prove its durableness. Been wearing mine for a few years now, got one for my son-in-law, who destroys belts, and his is still going strong!

I do have one of his belts. Daily wear for about 2 years now, still excellent despite my fat ass.
I've been wearing a Kramer double thick horsehide gunbelt (http://www.kramerleather.com/productDetail.cfm?productID=34&categoryID=2) almost every day for just over 25 years now, and it probably has another 25 years left in it. I used Kiwi black dye and polish on it once about 5 years ago. Not cheap, but you can't beat it over the long term.
Ive been using a belt from https://www.hanksbelts.com/. They are a little more expensive, starting at $49 up to $100. They are fully grain leather. The kicker for me, they give a 100 year warranty, one hundred years (limitations of course). They claim even your kids can claim the warranty as long as they have the receipt. I have not had to test out the warranty yet, but the kydex reinforced belt i've been using has been very dependable and durable. $50-$100 for a belt that has a warranty to last your lifetime; I couldnt pass one up; I may try one of their leather wallets too as they also get the 100 year warranty.

Ares gear, 2 choices: Ranger belt $84 http://www.aresgear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=6 and Aegis Enhanced $99 http://www.aresgear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=455
I've worn a ranger belt almost daily since 2012 when I bought it from Larue tactical since they had them in stock. When I first got it I was thinking "what the hell have I ordered, this thing feels like a band of iron". Turns out to be the most comfortable belt I've owned and the most supportive. What I intensely dislike about this Ranger belt is the cobra buckle system. It works , but is a pain in the ass to take off and on. This is why Ares created the Aegis belt with a more conventional buckle system.
I also own a Magpul Tejas belt, $85 IIRC. It has a non-slip lining on the inside that will absolutely keep your holster where you put it with-out any slippage. I dont like how thick it is , especially where it overlaps at the buckle area, greater than a half inch. Tried it for a couple months, went back to the Ares. Bowers Tactical has the Magpul belts in stock usually, if you want to try before buy.
Leather is for those with strange sexual fetishes, Cowboys, and suit coat models. Look up biothane belts if your belt will be exposed I.e. shirt tucked in, suit jacket, bending over etc. otherwise look up Volundgearworks, Carbon Tactics, Blue Alpha Gear or HSGI

Special Operations Equipment. I use their EDC line for everyday carry. It’s held my compact CZ all the way to a full size 1911 and a 2011 without sagging. I use HBAR Tactical for my dressy leather belts.

I've been running a 511 nylon belt for about the last 3-4 years and love it, even if the mutt chewed up the end.
There was a guy at the gun show selling custom belts. I don't remember how much they cost but I bought 2 and they are nice and will last decades I think. I had to drill a new hole in the belt at work because he first measured it while I was packing. So it was bigger. :) other than that it was a good buy.

I run 5.11 nylon and leather.
I had 1.5"nylon forever, and thinking of getting 1.75 this time.

As far as non leather is concerned, I've got two of the 5.11 1.50 belts, one of which I have been using for carry for about 12 years. I'm sure there are better belts out there, but I've been satisfied.
I've been through several of the popular leather holster type belts that look classy enough for dress but sturdy enough to offer good holster performance. Several I was surprisingly disappointed with based on all I had heard online. I finally got a 5.11 black leather belt years ago & have been very happy with it for any occasion. I cost less than the big name "belt holsters" I tried but performed better.
So, naturally when I needed a new brown belt recently I went with 5.11 again, right? Wrong! After some research & shopping to find a price closer to that of the 5.11 I finally ordered up the Magpul Tejas belt in Chocolate color. It arrived yesterday in fact & I was surprised by just how hefty this thing is. It's quite a bit heavier/thicker than I was expecting but this isn't a bad thing. It made my 5.11 leather belt feel like a string by comparison. I'm wearing it now for the first time so I don't have a better review but I'm quite happy so far. The fit, finish & style is top notch. I found a killer deal on eBay but having seen one in person I would have been fine paying retail now that I've seen it. I hope it stands the test of time the way my 5.11 did but seeing how this thing is constructed I have no reason to believe it won't outlive me.
A good quality belt really helps to distribute the weight.

I've been very impressed with the Magpul Tejas. Two+ years of carrying every day and it still looks new. No sag, no wear marks except on the buckle. It's a little pricier than what you asked for though.
I just went on email search and I bought nylon 5.11 belt on Mar 11, 2012. It has been 6 years, and works fine. Just the end of the belt are getting sloppy. I am going to use heat (lighter) method like paracord to see if it gets stiff.
I might have to go with 1.5 instead of 1.75. Few of my holster will not accomodate 1.75 belts.
lastly, I am sure lots of you guys remember that I sold bunch of leather 5.11 belt here about 7+ years ago? I kept few, and they are still running solid.

I love my Beltman bullhide 1.5” belt. Looks classy, and the .75” spacing of belt holes makes getting the right fit easy. Strong as hell, too.
Been wearing a Maxpedition Liger belt for 11 years now and it hasn't deteriorated.

I've been wearing a Beltman belt for the last decade. Great belt, but its leather. I understand why the OP prefers not leather, but I detest nylon belts for EDC wear (unless you want to dress like a park ranger or high speed low drag operator every day).
I've been looking at the Kore EDC gun belt for some time if I find myself needing something nicer than my Beltman https://www.koreessentials.com/collections/gun-belts
I've been using the same wilderness instructors belt daily for 10 years now. It's been slowly shrinking though... I might need a new one in a couple of years

I’ve been using the Magpul Tejas for a few years now. It’s a solid piece of kit.
Before that I wore the Liger Belt from Maxpedition. I don’t think they make them anymore though.
Ares Gear also makes a quality product. I own a couple of his belts but they’re a little too tactical looking for my daily wear.

Is it made from real Liger? It's pretty much my favorite animal.

I know the OP isn't seeking leather, but my Hank's Gunner belt is sturdy and looks good enough to wear with my suit. Very high quality.

Reviving an old thread.
I tried to replace my very worn Wilderness Instructor's belt but they are back ordered right now due to no buckles. I am thinking about getting something different and then sending in my buckle for new webbing. Anybody tried the Kore Essentials belt?
I really like mine. The ratchet setup is the bomb.
Update:
I got rid of 1.5" 5.11 nylon belt. It wsas warped/curved/sagged from usage. The area I was putting holder and holster are the area which was warped.
I still have the 5.11 leather type belt since I was selling those on this forum around 2012ish. The top/bottom edges are worn from sliding belt holder and mag holders every time. Besides that it is holding out well. I was wering this and the nylon 5.11 almost every day.
My next belt will be
1.75 5.11 nylon and 1.5 5.11 belt. I really like the stifffness of 5.11 belts. (and they are very inexpensive on ebay/amzn).

Not a Cowboy or a suit coat model, so I guess that leaves me in the one remaining category. I like the Mean Gene Leather belt for it's near infinite adjustability

Still holding up well five plus years in. Liked it so much I bought another one in black.
I also happen to really like the Galco dress belt, when used as marketed. It tapers very nicely and appears much thinner and narrower than it actually is. Can be worn easily with a suit without standing out. Stiff enough to support a full-sized 1911, though not nearly as supportive as the MGL. But for those suit and tie days, I can't think of anything significantly better.
Well, since we?re talking belts here...
I?m not a cop, a soldier, a mall ninja, or an air soft commando so I run a leather belt. Well, technically its partially leather.
Been running a Lenwood Hybrid belt daily for maybe three years now. It?s thick, stiff, and tough as nails. If I ever manage to wear it out I?ll definitely buy another one.

For non-EDC use, I recently picked up a couple of belts from Grip6. They take a little getting used to when it comes to cinching them up or unbuckling but I like that they are light, really flat in the buckle area, and don?t have the tail sticking out or dangling. Makes for a clean look.
