I can't seem to locate anything that discredits this story or suggests there was any other reason for her termination, but hopefully there is more to this story than what is being told.
If there's not, this is completely unacceptable.

Lawyer up.
I don't think she's telling the whole story. I followed this a bit on FB and checked her page. There were comments by a few people that said that her boyfriend had come to her place of work with a gun and threatened another employee. They also said she was a nut case and difficult to work with.
I have the screen shots on my phone and see if I can post them in a few.
Not saying she's totally wrong but I'd like to hear the other side first.
In one of her posts talking about it she starts talking about how they fired a "white woman". It was rather weird.
Having been through something similar, I don't believe her.
Something seems off with her.
Here's her FB post:
I was fired today. I was fired by a Department of Virginia… Social Services the people who are supposed to be there to keep kids safe and develop families into better people for each other. I was fired today due to having a concealed carry permit. Was my gun on me? No. Has it ever been on me during my job, or visits, or anything related to work? No. When I told them that it has never been on me during work, what did they say? “How do we know that.” Search me. Do I have a criminal record? No. Do I, (yes the 22 year old blonde who is 5’2 and about 140 pounds who loves everything Disney, pink, and basic), come across as a threat to you? If you know me I’m pretty sure you’ve never been shaking in your boots due to my vary presence. But today, I was escorted by not one, not two, but three Roanoke City Police Officers to my office where I packed up months of thank you cards, and pictures of kids I’ve helped. I was escorted by officers who have been with me on visits where I placed a child with a relative due to risks, or when I was hugged by a child because they finally felt safe again. I was told to pack immediately and that I could not even use the bathroom to take a minute for myself because of my “serious safety concerns to the building.” I have a concealed carry permit. I own guns. I hunt. I target shoot. I represent Women hunters and outdoorswomen. Does that make me a criminal? Does that make me a safety risk to others? A big enough safety risk to be escorted by three Roanoke City Police officers? So scary and threatening that I need to be treated like a criminal? To be humiliated and looked down upon for owning a gun? For legally having a gun, registering that gun, and having the appropriate documentation for that gun?
The Constitution of the United States of America. The one document that has followed us for years, and will continue to be the power resource of all we do as Americans. The second amendment: the right to bear arms. The Roanoke City Department of Social Services should be ashamed of themselves. They should be publically known that they did this. That they fired a innocent, clean record, white, female, college graduate who works for a living for legally having, and owning a gun. That was NEVER on their property or in their building. A gun that was never used for evil, but as protection as I am a survivor or sexual assault. Protection for being that white, 22 year old, female. I am an American. A gun owner. And a proud sponsor of hunting across America, and I, nor my lawyers, judges, or support systems will rest until something is done. Until someone answers for punishing me and taking away my constitutional right.
What the hell does being white have to do with anything?
And here's a person that seems to work with her casting doubt on her story.

I read through all the stuff on Facebook as well, sounds like there is likely a lot more to the story and the permit is not the reason she was fired.

LOL
Did this woman highlight "white" in red in her FB post or was that added later by someone else? If she did, my guess is a black/hispanic/asian/something-other-than-white supervisor or boss of some kind gave her the bad news.
And having a boyfriend or whatever show up at your workplace and act like a lunatic isn't grounds for firing, is it?
There's a lot we don't know here. But it seems her gun permission slip wasn't the cause of her termination.
LOL

I added the red. It just seemed odd to highlight the fact that they fired a white person as if it's some kind of sin

Yeah, then what I wrote is what I suspect happened.
At a minimum she struggled with grammar when she was in school.
Indeed.
I suspect that there was a great deal more to the story than she's providing- otherwise, there would be a lawyer making statements to the press by now. There's a great deal of bluster in her statement.
At a minimum she struggled with grammar when she was in school.
LOL, my first thought. I was going also say she doesn't know how to spell/use "very."

Doesn't really matter...
While she was extolling all the wonderful features of herself, she listed "white" as being one of them.. Seemed rather weird and I'm not one to throw the "R" word around alot, it seemed rather racist.

It would explain why she's emphasizing that she is white.

Depends on what/who you choose to surround yourself with, I've got immediate family who are on my friends list, that I've blocked their content from being displayed on my "feed".
Curate your friends list all you want, you're still going to get inundated with whatever garbage advertising and fake news that Facebook shoves down your throat in order to make a buck.
Sure explains why they call it a "Feed".
On top of that, no matter what you do, Big Social tracks and sorts you from every conceivable angle, including GPS, WiFi, photo, microphone, etc.

Given what Terry McAuliffe has been doing to the state government in VA, I wouldn't be at all surprised if her story was true but I also wouldn't be surprised if there was more to the story. We just don't know enough sitting half the country away. ONE person discredited her story? That person could also be the one with a backstory that's not at all kosher. Like I said, we just don't know.
.....and the plot thickens!
http://www.roanoke.com/news/local/roanoke/former-social-services-employee-whose-claims-went-viral-intends-to/article_013f0e88-f120-5e5a-831a-8f35447b579f.html
A woman who claimed on social media that she was fired by the Roanoke Department of Social Services for holding a concealed weapons permit said Monday she intends to sue the city.
Storm Durham said she is working with attorneys supplied by the Virginia Citizens Defense League, a Second Amendment advocacy group.
“I’m ready to fight it,” Durham said.
The Fincastle native stirred a major internet controversy with posts Friday to Twitter and Facebook alleging, “I was fired today due to having a concealed carry permit.”
By Monday afternoon, her Tweet had been retweeted 27,300 times and her Facebook post had been shared 9,200 times.
Roanoke officials released a statement Saturday, citing a policy of not commenting on personnel matters, but adding, “In light of these assertions, however, it is important to note that the City of Roanoke respects the Constitutional rights of its citizens and that the dismissal in question was not based upon anyone’s exercise of such rights.”
Human Resources Director Michele Vineyard was more direct writing city employees in an internal memo obtained by The Roanoke Times.
“The actions taken by the City were not based upon the former employee’s right to hold a concealed carry permit for firearms,” Vineyard wrote. “I want to emphasize that we have no policy or procedure limiting the right of employees to hold concealed carry permits as authorized by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia. We respect and support the Constitutional rights of our employees as citizens.”
Durham said Friday she received a document explaining her termination, with the reasons including performance issues during her six months with the office. Other reasons, by her account, were being arrogant, not paying attention during training, attendance and not being properly dressed. None of those claims were founded, she said.
Durham was a child protective services investigator still in her one-year probationary period as an employee, she said.
She described herself in an interview Monday as a Fincastle girl who began hunting and fishing when she was nine and whose grandfather owned a gun shop. She was a competitive cheerleader through high school and during her time at Roanoke College, where she said she also served on the college’s academic integrity and student conduct councils.
She graduated in May with degrees in sociology and elementary education and took her first job with the Craig County Department of Social Services, she said.
Durham said her dream is to be a teacher. She said she intended to work in social services while passing necessary professional exams to become certified to teach in Virginia, she said.
In October, Durham said, she transferred to the Roanoke Department of Social Services, where she “had a few bumps in the road.”
Four months ago, she said, her trainer taught her a procedure that she followed, but then was reprimanded for it by her supervisor. So she alerted her trainer, who sent her a “nasty email” calling her “sloppy and unprofessional.”
Durham said she took the matter to her supervisor, who, along with the trainer, “threw her under the bus.”
Later, Durham said, she was given a set of performance expectations that required her to close cases at a faster pace. She acknowledged it took her time to adjust to the caseload in Roanoke after coming from rural Craig County, but said she exceeded all expectations.
By Thursday, however, she was weary of how she was treated by supervisors and went to the human resources office to alert the director.
That afternoon, she was told the complaint would not be investigated. She was given a contact to reach out to if she had more concerns about her supervisors.
The next day, at about 4:30 p.m. Friday, she was summoned to the office of the assistant director of the department, was told she was being fired and given the document listing the reasons. At the top, she said, was a concern about “workplace safety.”
Durham said she asked about it and was told by the assistant director that her possession of a concealed weapons permit made her a safety risk in the building and for co-workers.
Three Roanoke police officers escorted her to her desk, Durham said, where her personal possessions were loaded onto a cart and pushed to her car by one of the officers while the two others escorted her out of the building.
City police did not respond to a request for comment.
That evening, Durham made posts on social media about her firing. She didn’t anticipate they would catch fire as they did.
“I’m not in this for fame or money of anything like that, but I wanted there to be public knowledge about how they treated me,” she said. She contends she was fired “because of values that didn’t line up with theirs.”
Within a short time she was pleased to see her Facebook post had been shared 47 times. She went to bed early and woke up to a flood of Twitter and Facebook notifications, she said.
The mass of people who commented on and shared her posts were supporters.
Some critics alleged she was a difficult employee and that a friend of hers threatened her co-worker and brought a gun to the social services office. Durham denied that, saying the friend was only in the office parking lot twice to help her carry her bag when she was on crutches with a broken ankle.
Durham quickly became a cause for conservative media and Second Amendment advocacy groups. She spent the weekend doing interviews with people from local broadcast news organizations, the National Rifle Association and Corey Stewart, a Northern Virginia politician who is seeking the Republican nomination to challenge Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va.
Her interview with The Roanoke Times was her 13th, and more were in the works, including one with “Fox and Friends” on Fox News, she said. She now has a YouTube channel called The Conservative Storm and the fact-checking website Snopes.com has a post about her claim with a “false” rating.
The response has been “overwhelming,” Durham said. And sometimes unpleasant.
“I’ve been told to go die,” she said, and mocked for her looks and high-pitched voice. The most hurtful comments have been those that suggested she shouldn’t be allowed around children, she said.
But she has no regrets, she said.
“I don’t want attention on myself, I want attention on what happened,” she said. “I like sharing my story, and I feel like God maybe put something in my lap [so] I could maybe further my career ... on a different career path.”
....and this is also from Facebook, from somebody else:

Two sides to every story... this side is a bit more believable. This is my opinion based on what I’ve been told. I offer this as another version of the events and it is a true rendition of what I was told. Decide for yourself what you want to believe. I hope the credible news outlets will look into what I have shared.
“This girl is not who she is claiming to be. She went to Roanoke college and majored in childhood education and sociology. This plays an important role in her job choices. She was fired from 3 different daycares and had to be escorted out of one of them by the police because she threw a fit and locked herself into a room with the children.
She then worked for Craig county DSS. She had shoddy work performance and was very dramatic and didn't carry the values of the agency. I am unsure if she got fired or resigned because she knew what was coming, but she came over to Roanoke city dss.
She was a nightmare and would not listen to any redirection and was unethical in her approach to child welfare. She always wanted to remove children and that is always the last resort if possible.
In her videos she stated that she got intro trouble because she had to bring a coworker back to the office when she wanted to respond to an emergency. We are not first responders like she says. We cannot make people open the door for us, we can't give first aid, we can't take children without a proper procedure. She stated that the child's life was in danger and she needed to be there. The cops report first to any danger in life. That in itself tells you that she didn't understand our job or the scope of it. Nor did she understand the delicacy of it. She was unable to accept instructions and when she was corrected, she would throw royal fits and lock herself into an abandoned office and scream and cry like a toddler.
Her and her boyfriend broke up for a few days in January after she downloaded the Tinder app and got caught. He told her to get her stuff out of their house. She went dancing at sidewinders with a coworker. While there, she was dancing all up on a married man and pissed the wife off. The wife poured beer on her head and a scuffle ensued and Storm was pushed to the ground and got a busted lip. When she was outside talking to the cops, she was drunk and yelling that she worked for dss and was a cps worker and therefore shouldn't get in trouble. She called the (ex)bf and he showed up and starting threatening the coworker, saying he would slit her throat.
This was reported to the agency and that is why there was concern about there being domestic violence in the home and they were trying to see if she needed help.
It was also reported to the agency that one of the times when she was reprimanded by the person training her, her bf showed up in the back parking lot and someone overheard him saying he had his gun on him. Allegedly he also followed this person down to sheetz. Storm never reported this, but it was reported by another worker.
That is why she was escorted out by police. She is unstable and it was unknown if her bf would show back up with a gun if she was allowed time to call him. Also based on her previous behavior, it was unknown if she had her gun on her or in her vehicle and that is why she was a serious threat to the building.
No one wants an unhinged, hysterical person around children that have already been through trauma. Even less so an unhinged, hysterical person with a gun.
I am very pro second amendment. She gives us all a very bad name. When her story comes out, just imagine how the media will run with this.”

I've contemplated starting a thread called Post Your Ignore List! for several years now, but I know it wouldn't go anywhere nice. Plus, it would reflect poorly on me as an instigator since I don't have one and don't think highly of the concept in the first place.

I've thought of something similar and had the same conclusion: bad idea. My thought was "post how many are on your ignore list" and nothing more, but it would degenerate into a shitstorm. Best to let those that want to ignore you and not hear alternative thoughts ignore you. I have zero on my ignore list, BTW.
You say she worked for social services? Sounds like the story of a former Olympic ice skater and her erstwhile boyfriend.
I guess when Jerry Springer left the airwaves, FB took that place in the entertainment venue.
This lady is full of shit. She only worked there for 6 months and is complaining about being fired? Grow up lady.
Oh, I fully agree as to the whole FB gossip-mill. I just added the bit that I did to show that she has not garnered 100% support, and her dramatics may end up costing her credibility.
I'm sure investigators will be digging into things to see what can be uncovered. If what is said is true, there will be a paper trail to back it up.

Concur. The facebook comments seem to be a lot of people's personal "opinions" and "perspectives", but no presentation of facts and the same can be said of Storm. She has yet to publish her termination letter as someone else noted earlier.
Those stories could just be people who don't like her trying to paint a negative picture of her or over-exaggerating things.
Somewhere in the middle of all this is the truth.
I'd like to think that any reasonable and ethical attorney would refuse to take such a case if there wasn't some merits to her claims.
However, when I think that, I remember Gloria Allred adamantly proclaiming a signature in her clients yearbook was in fact Roy Moore's and in the end the signature was forged, her client lied and was exposed nationally.
The truth will come out in the end.
