I am good friends with the father of the victim in this article. I cannot begin to explain the amount of rage and sadness this brings me. My heart is heavy with grief for him and his family. Derek was a bright young man who was simply trying to work and make his way through life. Only to be taken away by a vile, evil human being. If anyone knows who the suspect in the photo is or recognize him if you frequented the downtown area, please let Denver PD know ASAP.

Sorry to hear such sad news.
Prison is too good, for whoever did this.

This type of thing bothers me. It also reminds me of a Hank Williams Jr song regarding a "friend in NYC" getting stabbed:

But he was killed by a man with a switchblade knife
For 43 dollars my friend lost his life
I'd love to spit some Beech Nut in that dude's eyes
And shoot him with my old .45

Yeah...if there was justice that's how it would be handled.

Doesn't quite look homeless but does have crazy eyes.

I want to know how he got away with 2 securitas guys there.

Might catch flack since some other members work in the field, but having been there done that when I was younger. JFC some of the useless people they have working those big corp low pay security gigs. Then again those businesses don't hardly train, or basically give a shit and happy to fire anyone that actually did anything since it's bigger liability than having them stand around and just call police like any other bystander.

Prayers up for him and the family.

So sad for the loss of your friend's son.

Most "security" groups in the same vein as securitas train their people to NOT get involved, but only observe to report.

Very sorry for the loss of life of a friend.

Working security is scary, since they'll hire anyone. I've done it, and while I'm not a batshit crazy guy, I wasn't really equipped for the job either.

This is very sad to hear. I've seen stabbings first hand in that area back in my youth when we used to hit the bars down town every weekend. It's a very scary thing. Very sorry for this loss. RIP.

Unfortunately, not everyone got the memo that we've become civilized.

Thank you all so very much. I am very appreciative for the kind words. I haven't been able to shake this off of my mind since it happened. His dad is such a kind soul. The vile POS that killed Derek is still "at large". I hope they catch him soon.

7-11 Corporate should offer a huge reward for the capture of this scumbag. They don't GAF!

I'm stunned that this POS is still at large.

My heart goes out to your friend. :(

***UPDATE***

I just talked to my friend. Looks like PD scooped up his son's killer. According to him, the DA said they should have no problem making 1st degree murder stick. Sadly enough, as we all are aware, with our Liberal shitbag of a governor and liberal Denver DA, it is unlikely they will push for the death penalty. Regardless, I'll take any good news we can get.

Again, thank you all.

Good News, it's a start see how it plays out in court.

Sounds like it was a co-worker and was sparked by some confrontation earlier on? What a dirtbag . . . hopefully he gets life, since that's probably as good as you can hope for out here.

The thought of the death penalty is laughable. Look what dickenlooper did for Nathan Dunlap.
