I recently bought a Desert Eagle in 357 Magnum. Have only shot about 350 rounds so far and disassembled for the first time to give it a thorough cleaning. I am now seeing fairly large copper fragments in the slide and even larger chunks logged in the springs (two). Anyone ever experience something like this?
I have determined this gun is picky about the brand of ammo that is needed to cycle the slide fully. Fired several rounds or should I say attempted to fire factory ammo that failed to fully cycle the slide sometimes partially ejecting the spent round or not cocking for the loaded next round.
Comments???

Model # ? All were available in 357. Any noticeable damage to rounds you cycle thru hard by hand? Is the piston fouled? Are you able to post pictures of the fragments?
Yest the 357 needs fairly stout loads to cycle.

Is it gold plated?

Hot loads for the DE. Try some 357 +p. They don't seem to like factory loads when it comes to cycling or anything else. The 44 mag we had was like a crap shoot finding that one load it liked.

In my owners manual it stated only use 158 grain bullets in 357 magnums. Doing so caused no malfunctions with any ammo in mine. Lighter bullets did cause issues.
I also got a bit of scraping of bullet on the barrel locking lugs producing copper in the action.
Didn't seem to do any harm.

Mine prefers grease on the slide and hot loads
It was my first handgun in the early 90s.
I haven't seen any copper frags near the frame area.
As people mentioned that 158gr 1280ft/s or higher.
I once bought 125ish grain and it never cycled a round.
If I recall, no lead wad. It was mentioned that it can clog up the gas port?
It was one of the coolest looking handgun ive ever owned. It still gives me smile when I see that triangle on business end. :)

No noticeable damage to hand cycled rounds. Some ejected cartridges show dings but no tearing and the copper fragments are jacket copper not case brass.
I have taken some photos but it appears I am restricted on posting them. Still trying.

In reply window select "Insert Image" icon, window will pop up asking you to select "From Computer"(your gallery) or "From URL"(internet site), follow prompts and should load.
I checked your profile and don't see anything that prohibit pics.

So far all I can see is the camera for taking a photo, not my photo album. When I get home I will try to take some new shots and post them.
Ok. That's the newest generation. The original mk1 had some quirks. Is why I asked. You bought it new?

I am sorry, missed your question. Yes, bought brand new, had to order it.

The only way you're going to get jacket shavings is from it scraping the rounds while chambering. Careful inspection of the breech and feed ramp areas (most likely culprit). Hand cycling some rounds and careful inspection of those may show things you can't easily see on the harder surfaces. Also mark the up side of the round in the mag so you can clock any marks after ejection. If you don't see anything hand eject ever other round while shooting (mark them for index also). You may also try to cycle some lead round nose ammo, as the lead bullet will damage easier than a copper jacket.

Well still am experiencing the problem. Took a great photo to illustrate the issue. No jams but small chunks of jacket Particles are accumulating inside the slide and recoil springs. Hand cycling does not show anything obvious. The spent brass is not marked. Would like to recover the projectile before it is deformed. Any suggestions how we could do that?

Did you try this ^

Thanks for your input. We have not yet done what you suggest but we will this week.
Curious why you sent a link for warranty registration but my Desert Eagle does not seem to be included. Am I missing something?
