I have an old load for a 22-250 that shoots amazing out of my gun. The bad news is they were rounds my buddy loaded for me back in the day and he isnt sure what powder, how many grains, and he isnt sure what grain bullet it is.. The other sad point is i can't find that bullet anywhere. Its a hollow point and i belive its a barnes burner.. it has a blue molly coat. He said he believes it was 45 grain.

So 1. Is the best way to figure this out to pull everything and trying to weigh it or what?
2. Does anyone have the described bullet sitting on a shelf they are willing to part with or know where I might be able to find i?

I have realoading stuff but nothing to pull the bullet or the powder recognition skills, if anypne can offer any help on all this it would be greatly appreciated. I only have 3 rounds left.

Thanks, Craig

Pick a powder, look up load data for that round. That's after you weight the bullet to get an idea of weight. Unless you have a few of said bullet, i suggest starting from scratch. With no components remaining, that seems the way to go.

Yeah, I appreciate all the articles and advice on starting from scratch, I just really want to see if I can figure this load data/round out first, out of my ruger#1 this load shoots in the same hole at 100..others have always been close but this was the bread winner. I have had these rounds for 15 years and they are still killers.

If it means that much to you, and you're going to get into reloading at some point, you should really have one of these anyway.

Not knowing the powder used, makes it difficult, same for the bullet.

I keep reading the title to this and can't help but think of Monica Lewinsky for some reason.

I know the powder is either IMR 4895 or varget ;-) and its a barnes burner thats blue moly coated...

Yes the title was intentially an attention getter.....its working!

So, buy a bullet puller, pull one down, and you have your information.

Weigh the powder.
Weigh the bullet.

And then develop a new load since you can't get the same bullets anymore...

The XLC coating from Barnes got dropped because it didn't do what they wanted it to as well as other options, it was expensive, and a LOT of customers were having issues with velocity/accuracy from them.

Interesting. Thanks for that information
