A car loaded with propane tanks ran through the main gate at Travis Air Force Base in northern California on Wednesday night. Military personnel ran up to the burning car that exploded in flame after breaching the security gates.

In video posted on an Air Force forum on Facebook, firefighters are seen attempting to put out the flames.

Law enforcement sources say the car carried propane tanks and the driver deliberately ignited the fire. He died inside the car, which drove off the road into a ditch. There are no reports of shots fired during the incident. The driver has been identified by law enforcement but not been named.

The man who drove into a Northern California Air Force base and set himself and his car on fire has been identified and FBI reveal he is not a known terrorist.

On Wednesday Hafiz Kazi, 51, 'gained unauthorized access' to the main gate of the Travis Air Force base, drove through, and set his minivan packed with propane tanks alight in a fiery crash.

Kazi, an immigrant who came from India 25 years ago, died by the time authorities arrived on the scene and has no known links to terrorism, investigators said Friday.

FBI revealed they have no leads on the reason behind the attack.


Kazi was discovered locked in his minivan that was loaded with five propane tanks, three gallon-size gasoline cans and several cigarette lighters.

He was also found with a gym bag and had three cell phones.

His body so charred that he had to be identified by fingerprints.

Kazi emigrated to the US in 1993 and was a permanent legal resident. Authorities have not found any of his relatives living in the US to notify them of his death. One relative in India was notified.
