A friend of mine wants to hunt this season. I was thinking about applying as a group. However, I cannot find the answer to the following:

question: If we apply as a group, and draw, is it necessary for us to hunt as a group? I've ctrl+f'ed both PDF's above, and not found that answer.

I will have more days per the archery season to hunt than him, so I don't want to apply as a group if that means I can only hunt when he is able to hunt.

Also, I notice that it's based on the hunter in the group with the lowest pref points. I have 1 deer pref point and he has nothing. We would be putting in for archery Elk and Deer.

Is group application going to hamstring me on deer draw, then? Or would it help by covering both group and individual draw chances? I'm not clear on that.

Thanks!

And yes, I know time is running out. He is completing hunter education class Saturday, so I held off applying until he could finish, in case we go the group draw route.

Group only means the same Hunt code and technically one "entry" in the draw for all members on the group application. If drawn and he does not hunt on his tag, you can still hunt on your tag. While I am sure you know this, each hunter can only fill their own tag.

Yes, the lowest Pref points is what they draw is based on. I don't do group apps for that reason.

Yep you will be basically applying with 0 points.
Group is more for an all or nothing type of hunt. Either you all get tags or you don’t want to go.

Personally if you want to hunt no matter what and maybe he gets to go, then apply individually. Then if he doesn’t draw next year you can do the group hunt when you have 0 points and he has 1.
