Saw a commercial at work w/ the State Treasurer in it talking about the "Great CO Payback". Checked out the site: https://colorado.findyourunclaimedproperty.com/app/claim-search

Nothing for myself or my wife, but so far I've gotten confirmed hits on sis in law, some friends, and friends' relatives.

Pretty neat.

You can search by just last name, too. Handy for those of you not named "Smith".

I've got a hit for a small refund but they want enough for a good amount of identity theft. Can anyone verify this is a legit place being a .com not a .gov?

I got back a little over $1900 about 2 years ago. The irony is it was money I had already paid to the state for sales tax in 2007, showed the DOR guy the cancelled check and bank statements proving I had already paid, but was forced to pay it a second time because the asshole didn't wanna listen to reason.

Took 9 years to get it back...with no interest and I couldn't charge the state all sorts of ridiculous penalties, either.

I'm happy I got it back thru the "payback" website but it should've never been taken from me in the first place. So it does work. Be prepared for a long wait, though. Took about 4 months.

ETA: It's definitely legit.

I called to see the status and they told me it takes 120 days or something ridiculous.

I'd rather wait 120 days and get it back, than not get it back at all. Especially if I didn't even know it was out there.

BG's case is a little different though. He is rightfully due interest, IMHO.

They also can't check status for you. Agreed it's better to get money back then not at all.

I will gladly wait 120 days for anyone's money, if they do not wish to wait. :D

While my name's not extremely common, there's several hits, but not for my address. I guess it would have to be for a current or former address?

Unsure on how that works. If you believe it to be you, file the claim I suppose and let them tell you no.

Cool. Apparently, Google owes me $52.70. Probably from ads on one of my old web sites. I'll take it.

None of these are like traps for some old bill you have? I checked, kinda odd, both from when I lived in Ft collins years ago. One from I think the state, other which had first/last but not my middle initial was from allstate holding company. I've never used all state so possibly a different person of same name. (Not super common combo so would be suprised)

It's money you're owed, not money you owe.

I received a $6000+ check for my late mom from a class action case. Also found a small life insurance policy on a similar site. Worth the little effort.

I received a check today for $52.70. Took almost 8 months, but hey, I got it.

Congrats, you can buy more honey for mead!

I'd buy the honey, make the mead, and then go on a rant about Google after drinking 5 glasses.

Years ago after my father died, I found a small savings account that was his and forfeited to Unclaimed Property.
The cost of a duplicate death certificate proving his demise, and the cost of sending certified mail was more than the account was worth.
The State got their windfall!

I had an unclaimed fund for about 25 bucks or so. Took a couple of weeks.

Nothing shown for me. My last name is unusual, but i see a number others listed. Don't recognize any of those folks.

I would imagine the last name of x would be easy to search
