What scope and mounts for a Browning XBLT 30-06 hunting rifle

First time hunter, picked up a Browning XBLT with composite stock. Now need to figure out a good reliable scope and mount. New shooter, so I am thinking one of the $200 or so Nikon's ..........

All advice welcome, also insight on whether I can put this on myself or take it to the local gunsmith? Remember total hunting rookie......
