View Full Version : Rockies home opener
As a life long baseball fanatic (and mediocre player in my youth) I was determined to go the 25th Anniversary home opener. Every year I’ve taken my younger son to a game for his birthday in April.
I decided I’d drop the coin for really good seats this year, got ‘em and now we’re on track for possibly the coldest opening in history ahahahahaha.
Oh well, we’ll still have a great time and hopefully see a winning, though cold, game.
I’ll be there. Seat I believe are behind home plate

I’ve gone many times and I think I’ve seen a total of 3-4 innings all together. This year, going to sit a local watering hole and enjoy it five minutes from my house. Crowds don’t do it for me.
April birthdays are the best. I'm not at all biased in case anyone is wondering.
Have fun with your kid at the game! I still have good memories of going to games with my dad when I was a kid.

Probably be dressed more like I’m heading to a Broncos game with the stupid weather.

That’s what I told my son lol. He’s taking half day off from work, we’re sitting in section 139.
In June I’m taking the 4 yr old grandson to a Sunday afternoon game v Dodgers. That will be another special day.

I'll be there. Got a suite so I'll be warm and toasty. ;)

I think we're in section 140 or 141. Can't remember. My buddy has the tickets.
Also going to a Dodgers game in June. Think it's a Saturday game though.

Opening day is always fun, back when I worked downtown we all used to ditch out and go to opening day. It's always quite the zoo, then the next game there'll pretty much be no one there in comparison.
We'll be in the Club Level. If it's snowing downtown like it is here, I'll be watching the game from behind the glass.
Does anybody know how they will slide into second wearing snow shoes?

Or keep from sliding past second? [panic]

Ever since the new "consent for everything" stuff going on, I'm finding this more and more difficult.
And another shining moment for the ever dwindling Denver Post:

Heading over to the Littleton Light Rail station, here we go!
Lovely weather downtown today.
Trying to drink myself stupid so I won’t notice how cold and crappy it is at game time.
Yeah it’s not warm by any means

Alcohol, the sweater you wear on the inside.
It's already snowing in Dougco...
It's snowing here too, guessing the game will be postponed at this point.
They posted on Facebook they're on weather delay.

Screw it, I’m too old & grumpy to put up with this weather, hoping it gets cancelled. This is why there should’ve been a retractable roof from the get go. Enjoy all you brave souls, you’re better than me.
***Well about to hop in the car and head back downtown and give it a shot LOL. ***
The Rockies announced that the first pitch is now scheduled for 3:10 p.m.
Well just got home and took a hot shower, damn it was cold!! Ballpark thermometer read 24 for most of the game. We still had a great time, awesome seats, mostly nice folks around us. A fight broke out in the section next to use between about 6 guys I'd describe as "bros"-lots of testosterone and beer, wonderful combination. I felt bad for the elderly stadium folks trying to break it up-kept waiting for DPD to arrive but they never did, they were able eventually able to separate the groups and got one part to leave the section. Oh well-I really dislike drunks.
Back to the game-it was nice to see Cargo and Story get the home runs, unfortunately Marquez stunk and we never could get a lead. Still very happy we went back, overall it was a great day.

It was so cold. Wasn’t a fan would have been happier at home haha. Here were our seats https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180407/947ab0da6f013af5fd28242ffa0a1ef0.jpg

Nice seats! Did you stay until the end? Crowd got mighty sparse after the 7th.
We left top of the 8th

That's the bandwagon Denverites for you. This never really has been a baseball town though.

Yeah, thats why the rockies have been 8th place or higher in attendance the last 5 years.

I went to a lot of games with my dad, and he was known to duck out early when it was clear that one team was going to lose the game. This was done to "beat the traffic". We'd listen to the game wrap up on the radio.

This. The Bears and Zephyrs drew decent crowds as people here DO love baseball. Now as much as there are true fans in the stands a lot go just for the social outing. Two years ago we got freebies to the rooftop-worst experience ever. Surrounded by sloppy drunks and just party people-which I’m glad they hang out there rather than in the seats.
Initially the crowds were there to see the visiting team-for me it was the Dodgers and Mets-but the real fan base is strong.
I always take light rail so don’t have to mess with traffic/parking.
I was just thinking about how the times have changed in our society and as a result, in baseball. I remember going to games as a kid on "bat night". Everyone got a full-sized, wood, baseball bat. Here you had a crowd of 50K+, each armed with what could be a "weapon", and nothing came of it. I don't remember anyone getting into drunken brawls at a game. Over time, "bat night" shrunk to a miniature wooden bat and there were more drunks at the game. I haven't gone to games for quite some time, but I would imagine "bat night" has been reduced to an inflatable facsimile of a bat.

I wasn't around for the full size bats, but I certainly remember the mini bats, and used to have several from the Dodgers and Angels games we'd go to in CA while visiting family (before the Rockies were around).

Wow! You were very lucky! I spent my early years (up to age 12) in southern New Jersey and unfortunately my dad wasn’t able to take me to games in either Philly or NYC. In Tucson we at least had spring training (got to see a lot of great players, usually on teams against Cleveland) and the Astros farm team Tucson Toros. Movie trivia; in the film “Major League” when they’re at Hi Corbett field the guy holding the speed gun was actually the mascot who wore a bull’s head with a uniform during Toros games.
Anyway, baseball has been and always will be my favorite sport. Oh by the way the Red Sox are the only AL team I like because I despise the Yankees [LOL]
Oh-I just got 3 free months of the sports package from DirectTV so I can now watch the games at home. After July it’ll be an extra $13.

attendance only measures who shows up. not how long they stay.
True baseball towns have fans that stay all game. not skip out when they're down 4 runs going into the 7th.

Am I the only one that doesn't give a shit about baseball?
First opening day/weekend I've missed in about 10yrs...grrr work
Gonna try to get out to about 15-20 Rockies games this year... Baseball games at the park are always a fun time for me and the family
Go Rockies!!
Hey all, we missed the anthem and top of the first inning on Friday. Just saw a vid on YouTube of the anthem and LeMahieu kept his hat on during it. I’m too stupid to link it on my phone. You’d think if it was something political we’d have heard if he’s done it on subsequent games. Oh well, perhaps as others I’ve brought it up to say he was just cold. Hmmm, curious.
I really don't want to hear any crap about Rockies attendance. If you have a reasonably entertaining team in this market, people will show up.

The brawl last night was entertaining. The only thing missing was a hockey game breaking out.

...but hell, gotta' love a team named "Jumbo Shrimp".

6150, which was less fans than AA team is truely sad.
