View Full Version : Any gamers tried Far Cry 5?

Have any of the video gamers on the board here tried Far Cry 5? If so, what do you think about it?

I've never played the Far Cry series myself, but have been somewhat interested. However, with what I was initially seeing on Far Cry 5, I was thinking that it was going to be insulting "flyover country." However, this guy says it doesn't, and is actually reasonably balanced all things considered. This makes me actually curious about it now, and wanted to see if any others had played it and whether I should pick it up.

Finished Far Cry 5 last week and sold it.

Good:
More dense map. It means you spend less time in traveling.
-More fast travel.
-Good game mechanics.
-better weapon accessory options.
-better buddy systems.

Bad:
-Shorter game.
-Annoying (too frequent) boss kidnaps/hypnosis/respiratory hallucinagens.
-all 3 endings.

I am still happy that I played Far Cry 5, and currently playing Far Cry 4.

All the mainstream gaming press is mad that it doesn't signal lefty virtues hard enough.

Hard pass.

As we discussed, Far Cry 4 is really the only game I've ever played all the way through (except Zelda and Mario) and is my favorite FPS ever. How far are you so far and how do you like it compared to FC5?

If you've played the other Far Cry games and liked them, you'll probably like this one. It doesn't make a political statement beyond a bit of satire; there are a few caricatures of conservatives and "gun nuts" but it's nowhere near as extreme as some of the folks that post in GD at the other site. The game feels less serious compared to the previous ones, there is a lot of GTA in it. I like this one a bit more than FC4 but not as much as FC3.

Uh shouldnt that mean that you like it for not making the leftists happy? I know other gun folk and gamer folk that are proper Trump loving shit lords that all like it. Certainly more silly action fps with funny bugs etc. Nothing like a throwing shovel as a weapon.

I havn't played it myself since I'm still looking at like a 40 game backlog.

After reading the review I actually want to play this and I don't really play video games at all.

I am about 12-13% on FC4. FC4 is much bigger game* than FC5. I like FC4 storyline much much better than FC5 story. Just gameplay alone, i do like FC5 better than FC4.

BTW, I became a gamer due to AMD investment around late 2012. Lots and Lots of gamers was teaching me about technical aspects.
"You got to get into games to understand all the technology man..." :D

*= at least to me it is.

I have a buddy that develops for game companies. I helped him work out bullet drop physics a while back when he was working on a game called BioShock... I think that was the game anyways.

edit: yep, that was the game

Hm, good to know. I guess I'll probably pick it up, but as per usual I'll wait for it to go on sale. Thanks!

Which might be funny, because to my recollection, Bioshock has virtually no bullet drop in it. It's a pretty close ranged pseudo horror game.

There are games that do mimic ballistics pretty decently, that actually have weapon zeroing etc for range rather than just point and shoot at crosshairs no matter the distance.

I think it was version 2 of the game if that makes any difference. I do know for a fact that it is built into the engine though. Again I don't really play video games so I have no idea.

I played it, also finished it last week. Solid game, good gun play, improvements over previous Far Cry's (minimal), not hardcore at all, good time in it. I was worried it would be hyper political as well, but it really wasn't. I'd give it 4/5 for Far Cry games.

Fun but after a short period of time its absurdly easy. That said worth playing especially if you wait for a sale.

I’m maybe 20-30% through FC5. I don’t see it having the same level of playability as 4.

I usually only play Call of Duty durning it’s annual release and not much else. FC4 was the first game in a while I really got jazzed about.
I killed many an hour playing all the side missions and cleaning up the map. I don’t feel like 5 is going to have the same level of depth. It’s stupid easy compared to the last but at the same time it’s very stingy with the perk point to enable tasks.

I’m a casual gamer at best so I’m glad I found a presale price of 44 on amazon. Not worth the 60 bucks for new releases IMHO.

I loathe buying "new" games because of the price and the hype. I still am playing GTA5, Counter-Strike, and a couple others here and there. I broke down and bought FC5 and have never played the series. Overall first impression after 3 hours game play is that it's a decent game. Seems a little easy since you can "hire" helpers, and just use them to do a lot of the killing. But for a big open world game, it seems pretty good. I like the fact that there are so many options to choose from as far as "missions." Do I want to blow something up? Do I want to take over a town? Do I just want to screw around and drive a truck any where I please?

As of right now, I am not having buyers remorse for the game. This is my opinion, and opinions are like *, every one has one, and it usually sticks and backed up by sht.

Do the challenges with the various weapons as well as the prepper stashes. I'm only half way through the second siblings area and damn near maxed out skill wise with 50k in the bank.

I think I only used the hired guns once in all of Far Cry 4.

The most satisfying thing ever in FC4 was using the Vietnam war grenade launcher to blow shot up out of the window of a vehicle. Well, and blowing up convoys with land mines and/or C4.

Almost got the game, $60 for something I'll play for probably an hour in total isn't worth it for me. How many nerd points do I lose?

Bioshock 1 & 2 are hands down two of the best video games ever made.

Surprisingly, Bioshock 1 is literally the only existing criticism of Objectivism that doesn't resort to ad homonyn attacks and straw man criticisms of the philosophy. It actually manages to treat the philosophy is critiquing in a reasonable manner.

Bioshock 2 does the same for Marxism, especially as espoused by the Freudian set, and is equally great.

Your friend is very lucky to have been a part of those games.

been streaming it a few times on Twitch.tv (Shameless plug to get subscribers - twitch and youtube CptRon121)

Lots to do, can be random fun, or actually mission based.

finally got enough time to sit down and beat it. Just took me 8 months.

Still have tons of side missions left.

Just started playing Far Cry 5. It did seem easy so far, and weapons seen very easy to come by. I'm only a few hours in and somehow I already own the light up .50 cal rifle?

Anyway, I don't know exactly how to describe it, but I really feel like I can't see as well in this game. Like the field of view is more narrow top to bottom sometimes. Other times it seems like it's a fishbowl/wide angle effect where the field of view is okay, but it seems like you can't focus on a distant object very well. Like how when viewing through a wide angle lens you can't really focus on an object that is close in reality, but seems far away.

Played Far Cry New Dawn fri-sat off of redbox rental.
I dont know it is worth 39.99, but worth renting 3-4 time when redbox has deals going on.
