Hello Friends:
I wanted to warn your all about a scammer, you can Google this number for more information.
Apparently they are calling after either buying or stealing phone lists and personal information from different sources,
including Pharmacies. (We believe they got our number from our Pharmacy.)
The number shows up on caller ID as San Francisco, CA # 415-880-5599.

We did not answer the call and received a message on our answering machine that was very disturbing.
and I quote, "you will die" and they hung up.
Please be aware that they are trying to steal from you and will become threatening if you ask them to be removed from their call list.
As I said if you Google this number you will see how wide spread and varied their scamming is.
Best wishes and be safe:

Isn't that more of a prank call than a scam?

Yes, but it still wouldn't be any type of scam.

Don't really think it matters much, does it?

Here is one of the google searches on these scumbags.

They are trying to scam people. follow the link my previous post, and see some of the stories.

Plus I really don't think the exact terminology needs to be be discussed this hard by you Sturtle.

My lady gets calls like this all the time on her number as well. It is very irritating. Usually they are calling about warranties for cars.

I think I will tell them that there are 3 of us that are interested in meeting them, me, Smith, and wesson.

Or I will come up with something creative, one guy I was reading said this when they called his shop. Hello, yes this is an investigator with the FBI and you are calling a crime scene where a murder was commited, and any incoming callers would be considered as persons of interest, and your number was just traced and you are on our list now. He said the caller immediately hung up and never called back.

I remember hearing about these Scams couple years back and yes there SCAMS, how it works (one of many) is they threaten you either by saying that they're a legal firm taking action againts you, or in not so rare cases, threaten your life. The first impulse reaction of most people would be to call these numbers back. Problem with that is, when you call those numbers You get charged for upseen amounts on your Phone bill, think of it as a 1-900 Number. Its also a attemp to phish your personal info.

I would suggest if you had called that number back, you need to call your phone company and find out if you were charged for using a "payed phone service".
