Magazine Kit questions

I have read that purchasing a repair kit is kinda legal- one of those grey areas in a poorly written law. If I did purchase one, and the date stamped on the magazine itself says 2017, what are the legal problems I may encounter? I realize the burden of proof is on the prosecution, and I don't plan on getting in trouble, but I certainly like to avoid it when possible.

Are there range officers or ranges that will not let you shoot if you have a "post ban" magazine? Specifically Cherry Creek, but other ranges as well.

Has anyone encountered problems with these kit's legality?

I know what stippling is. How does this affect a magazine in the eyes of the law and shooting ranges?

How often have you had a range officer look close enough at your stuff to see a serial or date on anything?

Most RSO's don't know and don't wanna know either. I spoke with an RSO recently that had a customer trying to show him his NFA paperwork. The RSO responded that "I am not the ATF or police, my job is to keep this range safe.

The onus on you. Their really is no "burden of proof", with our legal system, if you find yourself in court, you're already fucked. On the upside, most police officers either do not care, or don't wanna get involved, they usually have more important work to do. Some magazines, like Magpul, have date stamps. Many others do not. This makes it very hard to prove the date manufacture and the chain of ownership. If by chance you have magazines that were manufactured after that arbitrary date, you should know which ones they are because technically they are prohibited.

I wasn't asking how to bend or break the law. I was curious about how the rules are seen by others, on both sides of the law, and if they are ever enforced.

This is my first centerfire rifle with a detachable magazine and I don't want trouble due to my ignorance.

Personally, I’ve found the best way to stay out of trouble is not to break the law. Seems simple but I guess I’m a simple guy.

If you're worried just keep the 30 parts kits in storage until there comes a time when 30 rounds will be very handy and just use 10s or magblocked 15/30s from charlie coopers (A CO company) at the range. The charlie coopers ones are nice because you can actually clean them compared to other options. http://www.charliecoopers.com/magpul-15-30-limited-magazine-pmag-m3-223-5-56-15-round-from-30-ar-rifles/ You can also get the hexmag 15/30s and you are able to clean those as well.

That said, many people buy and use these "parts kits".
