View Full Version : Gun store trade/sale, odd experience

So I sold 3 firearms today at an LGS and traded for 1 with cash back to me. These items had been listed here previously and weren’t moving so I decided to see what I could get on trade. I have sold to this LGS without issues in the past and they were competitive on trade previously. Two of the items were handguns and included no mags because they are pre 2013 17rd. I still have other guns that take the mags. I told this to “sales person A” at the store. When negotiating price, he said specifically that he was paying less for the handguns because they had no mags and he would have to supply them with compliant 15rd mags. “Sales person B” that is normally around the store and I think is the owner is not around. Everything else goes smooth, background check, sign bill of sale, and I leave with a new gun and check.
Unfortunately, I forgot my ID from the transfer. I call and get Sales Person A, he apologizes that he didn’t give it back during the transfer and says it will be in the register.
Later that day, I stop back for my ID. Sales person A is gone. Sales person B is the only one there. I ask for my license. Sales person B ignores the license request and tells me I need to bring two mags in for each handgun I sold to them. I say that wasn’t the deal. Sales person B then goes on to explain how I tricked sales person A and made him think the guns had mags with them. I got slightly confused on whether he was saying I took them when I left or he was accusing me of lying during negotiating. Either way, I had swindled them and needed to bring them back/in immediately. I said that wasn’t happening and I wanted my license. He then said the sale was off and I needed to bring him cash and the gun I bought back. I asked when sales person A would be in and I said I would come back then. He tells me when A will be in and then just stares. I ask for my license again, no response initially, just a staring contest. Then he finally hands me back my license. I leave.
I plan on going back and asking sales person A what is going on. I’ve never experienced anything like this. I am assuming sales person B feels he got burned on the trade, but it wasn’t a good deal by any means. Just ok.
Anyone experience something like this? Thoughts?
Sounds to me like he needs to piss off.
I wouldn't go back to talk to sales guy A. I wouldn't go back at all for that matter.

Chick move. Chicks love drama and confrontation. You have your new firearm, your cash, and your ID back. What would you gain by jumping back into the middle of this?

I'd go to his bank and cash that check...quickly. He may decide to stop payment.

I just wasn't going to talk to person B anymore. The trade was with A.
That’s their problem to work out. You made a legit deal . Don’t sweat it and don’t go back.
you don’t owe them shit.
I’d also like to know what shop this was in a pm if ya don’t mind. I don’t buy a lot but it’s nice to know.

Salesperson B needs to take customer service classes before working at $9.75/hr job again.
Oh yeah, there are lots of idiots who have 500k+ job who are as stupid too.
I'd go back and ask for the manager or owner. Screw A and B.
I would also like to know what shop it was.
I think we should schedule the Meet and Great at this shop, during the time that you go back to discuss this situation.
If they ask any questions, simply respond that it is a new Yelp Live pilot program that is being tested in local markets.

I was hoping so. I had to wait to post again and figured someone would sneak in under the 30 second limit.

I wanted to keep it generic for now and I'll follow up once the check clears. This just caught me off guard after a long day.

Brilliant. I'll bring my neck-scarf and Starbucks.
Sounds like a professional Loiterer . Question is. What group will be outraged enough when the store calls the cops, it warrants everyone taking sensitivity classes.
The big question is. Why at the point when employee (what ever letter of the alphabet was used) Refused to hand your DL back, was the owner not asked for immediately? Also why have you not sent this issue to the owner via email?
Add me to the list.

I’d be interested to know as well. Sounds like salesperson B could be the owner of one of the shops I formerly worked for lol.
I would’ve immediately brought up the bill of sale when salesperson B stated that the trade was off. I’d then inform them that I have a 25% restocking fee that they’ll need to square away in order to reverse the deal. (Another throwback to that former shop owner I worked for :)

Small shop with no one else there so it didn't seem relevant to ask for owner.
I've been to many LGS with poor customer service. This was the first time I had one try to go back on a deal that was complete.

Is an LGS a special type of FFL dealer?
Not familiar with the acronym.

LGS most are the same as used car salesmen. Know little and just pushing what they have whether or not it is what you want. I avoid them whenever possible.

Got it!
When you google the term: Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) is a rare and severe kind of epilepsy that starts in childhood.
Gives a total different meaning to a conversation.
LGS = Local Gun Store
And all this time I thought it was Local Gun Shop.

Oh wait, I remembered that you're married so you're probably used to it by now.

I think you're mixing up the LGS with the BBS (Big-Box Store, like Cabella's or Bass Pro).
LGS stands for Lesbian Gun Store, the only question is if they are lipstick or butch lesbians.
What is the name of the store?
Salesperson B needs to learn some manners and to get the whole story before calling you a liar.

I would be totally down for this. Especially if there is a Starbucks nearby where I could get a large strawberry Frappuchino. And assuming I can get my wife to lend me one of her scarves.

I used to make fun of winter scarfs. Then I got one and walking the dog in sub 32 degree weather became warm.
Now hipster scarfs.... just scream estrogen.

This, I don't have a problem firing LGS if they start crap like you described.
One of two shops I stopped frequenting after their shenanigans has closed, I don't know if the other has yet or not.

That's awesome that your patronage can single handedly make or break a business.

Stopped by issuing bank for check. It cleared today so good to go.
I stopped by Bison Arms in Longmont. Spoke with Salesperson A. It sounds like A & B are co-owners. Salesperson A said that he would honor this deal, but that as an unwritten rule they don't take handguns without mags.
I won't be back.

Not surprised about that place. I stopped in there one day a year or so ago to look around. While I was there two other customers were in the store discussing gun control laws, when the guy sitting at a desk behind the counter stood up shaking his finger at them telling them both to leave because politics are not to be discussed in his store. It was just really petty and idiotic. I never went back after seeing that.

I was specifically told I was being paid $50 less per gun so they could buy 15rd mags for them. The mags are just an expensive that was calculated into the original deal.

Absolutely. A policy is a policy and both owners should have been on board. The one owner acted like a total jackass and did not handle the situation good at all.
