View Full Version : Life's a two-sided coin: goodbye Maxx

When you think about it, life is a two-sided coin: life on one side and death on the other. In fact, you can't define death without life! Death is contingent upon the existence of life, but life is not contingent upon death!
This reality came abundantly clear to our family yesterday morning when we lost one of our border collies, Maxx. He had been sick last week, and on Friday we took him to the vet and he stayed there all day while they performed test after test and found nothing of any significance (except a whopping vet bill!). Saturday night he actually made it up the stairs to sleep in his normal place: on his dog bed, next to my wife. Sunday morning he went out back to do his morning routine and then laid down on the floor by the backdoor, and was gone a few minutes after that. No cries, no stress, no trauma, just silently went away... God was gracious, as always! HE is the one that made this two-sided coin!
Maxx was our 2nd rescued border collie (from Wyoming Border Collie rescue, they're not defunct) and was only about 8 or 9 years young. He fulfilled his purpose and his end of watch has come...
Thanks for letting me honor Maxx and the God that created him.
Maxx is the brown/white one next to Chip, our 1st border rescue:

I am so sorry. Loss always hurts.
The pair of them look exactly like my Streak and my parent's Indy years back before we lost the both of them. My current boy Ollie looks a lot like Chip.
That's a tough one.
Good looking dogs.
My condolences.

I am so sorry he is gone.. Dogs are such noble creatures they deserve to live longer. Tears your heart out to lose one of the family.

You gave Maxx a good home and he returned unconditional love. As they said in the film Dances with Wolves, "Good trade."

Looks like Maxx was a very good and happy boy. Cherish the years of love he gave you and you gave him.

Condolences my friend, nothing is quite as uplifting as a loyal canine. We lose them all too soon.

Hail Maxx!
Thanks for sharing part of Maxx's remarkable story.
Sorry to hear bud. It’s never easy. Sorry for your loss. Go flip a coin for another pup ! There’s way too many seeing the bad side of that coin early.

Very sorry to hear of your loss brother. Grief, while excruciatingly painful, is essential for us to fully enjoy the periods without it. They fill your heart with such joy and give you wonderful memories that it's difficult to say goodbye. The Lord let Maxx exit gracefully; take consolation in that.
I won't be getting any more pets. The two cats we have (one is my buddy and acts so much like a dog it's scarey, the other is my wifes) will be our last. I miss having a dog but it wouldn't work well with the cats. I expect another 10 years from my buddy and another 18 from my wifes cat. By that time we'll be too old to get more without them staying around after we pass on. Besides, I've lost too many through the years and just can't take the loss any more.

Sorry to hear sir, I have cried with every single pup I have ever had to put down. May he cross the rainbow bridge.
Sorry to hear, prayers sent.
Two sides of a coin- I like that.
One side joy, the other side, grief from their absence. Maxx was much loved by his human family, and loved you very much in return. May your grief and sorrow be softened by your memories of his antics and the full, happy home you all shared. Perhaps one day, another rescue will hear all about his or her 'Uncle' Maxx, while helping to fill your home with their own canine devotion.
Sorry about your pup’s passing, dogs truly bring happiness to our lives, hopefully we do the same for them.
Sorry for your loss. We take them into our homes so we can give them a better life then they could have had. I'm quite certain you gave him the best life possible. When your heart gets heavy remember the good times you had together.

Sorry man. It's horrible losing a best friend.
When you're ready, get another. Not to replace the one you lost, but to expand your heart and enrich another beings life.
So sorry to hear and I feel your pain. I lost my dog last December before Christmas and your post reminds me of him. My mom told me that all pets go to Heaven, waiting for us, and that gave us peace. He misses you too.
